Cadillac CEO Says That CT6 Is NOT On The Chopping Block As Reported
Cadillac chief executive Johan de Nysschen has denied reports that the CT6 could be axed after the 2020 model year.

Late last week, Reuters indicated that the CT6 was one of six passenger cars from General Motors reportedly on the chopping block due to dwindling demand for cars.

However, while speaking with Jalopnik, de Nysschen said there is no plan to cancel the luxurious sedan.

“There is absolutely, if I could speak all capitals now, they’d be coming out of my mouth. There is absolutely no plan, at all, to cancel the CT6.”

The plan is the plan, until the plan changes.

Interesting. It will remain to be seen in indeed the CT6 is a platform design and it can therefore be stretched or shrunken to be used in a midsize or large SUV or a midsize or smaller sedan. Time will tell.

Clearly - the writers were looking at all the cars produced at the Hamtramck plant and included the CT6 - but that did not make sense since it is on a new - certainly going to be used in the future platform for large vehicles. Now- you already know I own a CT6 - but as I have said - it needs a complete restyle to be competitive. THen - GM will also need to identify their market segments better - since it is somewhat smaller than the S-Class.

The CT6 is a good design, but a HORRIBLE execution. It's like Cadillac thought "How much wrong can we put in one car?"

Many would agree that the even more idiotic alphabet soup name was the first blunder. If it were called Seville or Elmiraj, its introduction would have been more of an event.

Styling that made it indistinguishable from the CTS was a massive blunder. Conversely, the CT6 would have made a brilliant CTS REPLACEMENT. Cadillac's current styling is dull, played out, and not special in any way.

Pricing was stupidly optimistic. Given the steep, invasive discounts GM is paying for to keep the CT6 moving out the door, they priced it too high. If the massive incentives on the CT6 died tomorrow, so would its sales.

No V8????? How dumb is that? If the CT6 had the Corvette's engine under the hood, it would SELL.

Continuing to produce a car that has to be heavily subsidized to make sales is idiocy.

The solution: Kill the ATS, CTS, and CT6. Repurpose the CT6 chassis for a new, traditional Seville ($45K) and a coupesedan Escala ($55k). Then do a crossover with a name like Elmiraj.
