SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED: Tesla Hands Over The FIRST 30 Customer Cars — All-new Model 3 DETAILS HERE!
If you're one of the many hand raisers who has plunked down $1,000 for an all-new Tesla Model 3, last night was a special one for you. That's because for the first time the full details of the Model 3 were discussed.

Prior to this there was some insight but even the price was being withheld. So, how did it go down?

Tesla Model 3 Launch Party

Well, it looked like a rock show, if I am honest. There was a bit of a show business quality to the event, which is normal for an automotive launch. It's just unique to do it outside the automotive show circuit. Happening at TSLA's Fremont factory, it reminded me just a little bit of Steve Job's famous product debuts.

Here's what you need to know.

There will be two variants of the Model 3, the base car and then the Long Range version. The standard Model 3 will obtain approximately 220 miles on a single charge, do zero to 60 in 5.6 seconds and start at $35,000*. The Long Range will obtain approximately 310 miles on a single charge, do zero to 60 in 5.1 seconds and start at $44,000*.

*These prices do not include title, taxes, incentives and fees.

Tesla Model 3 Launch Party

The Model 3 will ship with standard, 18-inch wheels but if you want a bit more swagger you can up them to a set of 19s. Surprisingly, the Model3 is kind of light by modern standards. The base car tips the scales at nearly 3,550 pounds and the Long Range is a bit porkier weighing in at just over 3,800 pounds.

When it comes to juicing these puppies up, the standard Model 3 will charge 130 miles per 30 minutes plugged in at a TSLA Supercharger. The Long Range, on the other hand, will charge 170 miles per 30 minutes at a Supercharger. Using a 240V household outlet? Then it will be 30 miles per hour for the base car and 37 miles per hour for the Long Range variant.

Each Model 3 ship with all the cameras and sensors required for full autonomy. That means there's 8 cameras and 12 sensors. Autopilot can be added for an additional $5,000 charge. Tesla says that full autonomy will be available down the road for a rather economical $3,000.

When it comes to style and paint selection, you have a rather limited palette of colors to choose from:

- Solid Black
- Midnight Silver metallic (+$1,000 option)
- Deep Blue metallic (+$1,000 option)
- Silver metallic (+$1,000 option)
- Pearl White Multi-coat (+$1,000 option)
- Red Multi-coat (+$1,000 option)

Looking inside, it's clear that Tesla went for a minimalist vibe for the cockpit. It is exceedingly sparse and I am pretty confident this is the first production automobile to have an interior that mimics the concepts we've seen for the past couple decades. You have a steering wheel and a 15-inch touchscreen. That's really it.

To make it a more rich place to be, you can select a $5,000 premium package that will add the following:

- Covered center console with docking for two smartphones
- 12-way power and heated seating
- Power steering column and side mirrors
- Open pore wood trim
- 2 USB ports for rear seat occupants
- Premium audio system
- Panorama glass roof
- LED fog lights

So, what do YOU think, Spies?

I always wonder how large LCD screens make it past NHSTA crash testing. Passenger test dummies never come in contact with it? It stays in place in a 40mph crash? Kudos to Tesla if it does.

call me old fashioned but I wouldn't mind having something in front of me vs everything to the side on the dash, unless it comes with HUD which can be annoying as well..

You're old fashioned, but I like how you think.

1 - Like the Model T - Standard in Black. Pay an Extra $1000 for any other color
2 - No speedo in front of the driver - People do not like that.
3 $5000 extra for power seats? (Look at the rest of the list that comes with the power seats - to see what is worth the money?)
4 - The rear seats look flat as a pancake.

Sorry to say - but it does not push any new buttons for me. Still do not know interior dimensions as well. Maybe a used Model S would be a better buy!

I like the exterior styling but man is the "Ikea interior" ever so disappointing and looks cheap. Had they spent a little more time with conventional instrumentation and more upscale materials this could have been a real game changer especially in a wagon version which would have parted with my money.

Alas Tesla is not conventional, it's here to break the old conventions, and set new ones.

The interior of the Model 3 is so minimalist that I believe it will turn off buyers and be a huge problem for Tesla in the future. The lack of a speedometer in front of the driver will be a new concept for pretty much every buyer and I'm not sure buyers will like it. The lack of even a single button means everything is controlled from the touch screen or through voice commands. Is voice command even standard on the Model 3? I don't think I read about it anywhere. If there is no standard voice command, everything will be done through the touch screen, which is very distracting.

I can't believe power seats aren't even standard and are only available through a $5,000 package. Without the $5,000 package, which not every buyer will get, the interior is a massive disappointment and leaves the door wide open for Audi and Mercedes-Benz to deliver a similarly priced all-electric offering with a much higher level of standard luxury.

I'm surprised as well that the power seats were not standard, but it looks like the $5,000 package also includes vinyl seats (like the S & X) instead of the standard cloth seats. That is a $3,300 upgrade by itself on the S/X. The pano glass roof I value at $1,000, $500 for the fog lights, $500 for the memory seats/mirrors, $1,500 for the premium sound system, $1,000 for heated seats (on all 5 seats), and $250 for the covered console. I think it is worth the $5k and it could have been a lot more expensive unbundled for me since I want all of those features.

It looks clean on the inside, perfect when the self driving features really start rolling out. Initial reports are saying the speedo in the middle is not a big deal and you get used to it quickly (plus it won't matter when self-driving is enabled).

If people weren't into this car, they would be getting their deposits back right now. Yesterday it was confirmed by Tesla that they are now over 500,000 orders post event. All 8 of my cowerkers are keeping their reservations, not one dropped out.

I'm happy they are not standard, mechanical seats are much easier to adjust, simpler and lighter.

You know and I know that they'll sell every single one they can make, and for their asking price.

Since they are the ONLY ones who sell them - there are no other independent outlets - of course THEY will sell every one - the only other way to get one is on the USED/AFTERMARKET.

However - the question is - how long will the "circus" last. THe market has already shown that there are only so many "green" buyers and they are not buying right now. In addition - the price is still well above that which the average car buyer can afford - and competes with many fairly well equipped premium ICE sedans that have reputation on their side as well.

THe question remains - will people rush to buy the Model 3 - or wait to see what others will bring out. At least one think you can look to is whether the Bolt starts to sell again - since it is easily well equipped for a lot less than a Model 3.(It is discounted by dealers too)

I especially enjoy the comments about how Audi or BMW or whoever will come out with an electric car with a much nicer interior for less blah, blah, blah.

Tesla was first and they have a years long head start. I'm sure someone will come along with a competitive product, eventually, but you think Tesla will stand still between now and then? My sense is that the competition - as well as the guys in this forum - are so rooted in old auto architecture they can't fathom where Tesla is headed.

Gents while a fine car, are we the tax payer still providing welfare to telsa/Musk to make them sell-able?....

Two of the cars delivered were to real customers. Tesla stated from the get go that employees get a priority.

Where did you get one a day? There were at least 50 cars at the event, 30 to be delivered, 20 for the demo rides.

The solar roof is not considered useful as the area of the roof is too small and it is kind of idiotic to leave the car in the sun just to gain a couple of miles.

You hate too much BobM, it's bad for you. The little snowflakes and leftcoast ignorant moonbats mommies are genuinely concerned for your well-being. Seek help my friend, Autospies is not sufficient.
