Motor Trend Declares $60K Tesla Model 3 a Winner
Most analysts had expected the hype that Tesla’s Model 3 mass-market car would only cost $35,000 was a bait-and-switch marketing ploy for a higher-priced vehicle. Fiat/Chrysler’s CEO Sergio Marchionne told Motor Trend in April 2016, “I’m not surprised by the high number of reservations but you have then to build and deliver them and also be profitable.”

The production Model 3 that Tesla gave Motor Trend for a morning road test through Old Topanga Road in Malibu, just hours before the delivering the first 30 Model 3s, turned out to be a $59,500 fully-loaded production model with the performance 235-horse-power drivetrain that leaps from zero to 60 miles-per-hour in 5.1 seconds.

Ah the truth leaks out.... another example of Tesla's deceptive practices, and MotorTrends playing loose with the truth.

The 1970 Chevy Vega, 1974 Mustang II, 1980 Chevy Citation and the 1983 AMC/Renault Alliance were all MT's Cars Of The Year. So I wouldn't put too much faith in their judgement.

Guess what, everyone that has been inside of it disagrees with you. Even Tesla enthusiasts that hated it a year ago now love the interior. If you look at it side by side with the latest BMW 3-series, it is like looking at a 1999 Blackberry and and new iPhone.

I can assure you that all other companies will be moving towards this type of design over the next 5 years.

SanJoseDriver - NONSENSE - THere has been NO poll of people who have been inside of the Model 3 as to whether they like the interior - that is ALL IN YOUR MIND. THere will be people who don't care and those who do - but right now - there is no choice. Just as Tesla is not offering Leather either.

I can assure you that companies will NOT be moving towards minimalists interiors with all gauges in the center. Saturn tried that - and IT was a complete failure.

SanJoseDriver knows the way ... I've got a lot of friends who like Tesla by the way...just had to say...Life's a big freeway catch a ride and be a star... In this case (as does pretty much everyone) the central screen will be a design feature in cars going forward. The Toyota Prius has had a central stack display and no gauges for years. It is the future. Not on every car for sure, but you will likely see this on the majority of new cars. BEV's first then hybrids and then the rest. No need to hate. Just adapt and be happy. You will find life a lot easier if you do.

People who have seen and driven the car have loved it. No reason to think most owners won't feel the same way.

I have a feeling all these naysayers will be disappearing into their caves within the next year.

Wonder how much Elon Musk paid Motor Trend for the plug?

Did they also pay every other major auto publication to say the exact same thing? At some point, you need to put down your own biases aside and actually read what people are saying that have sat in it, including non-journalists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awtlIyTxbTo

I think the interior design is the future, but it will take longer for other makes to realize this. They will study the trend, wait for others to move on it, then start the design process 5+ years prior to vehicle launch.

Agree... BMW got close to this with the i3 a few years ago. Like it or hate it the simplicity and the styling are not going away. Blackberry buttons vs. a clean slate touch screen... that has been decided.

I think this may be the single most ridiculous statement I've ever read on AutoSpies, and THAT is saying something.

$60k: That's a mass market vehicle for sure.

$35k for the base mass-market variant ($25k after incentives if you already have an order), if you spec it to $60k you are essentially building a BMW 340i, which will be a similar price with the same options (except it won't have autopilot or OTA updates).
