Future Ferrari SUV Could Double Profits For Exotic Automaker

Ferrari may seek to increase its annual sales and bolster profits with a four-seat “utility vehicle”, sources close to the matter have said.

The new vehicle will come as part of a five-year plan, reports Bloomberg, to be confirmed in early 2018, that aims to double the Italian sports car firm’s profits by 2022 - and take the company beyond its self-imposed limit of 10,000 cars per year.

That limit is designed to keep Ferrari below the point at which fuel economy and emissions requirements become more stringent in some markets, which goes hand-in-hand with Ferrari’s existing intentions to electrify more of its product range in future - along similar lines to the hybrid LaFerrari.

I can't wait to see the Dodge Durango with a Ferrari face.

Just to clam the nerves of those living in the Modena/Maranello vicinity, that is not an earthquake you are experiencing, bit Enzo rolling over in his grave at supersonic speed. A Ferrari SUV is wrong on so many levels.

I am guessing it won't be an SUV with any U in the design. It will be a high riding coupe (w/hybrid option) CUV/Shooting Brake thing that only Ferrari could create and have a little bit of storage space that can be utilized by $10k worth of Ferrari luggage. It will compete with the equally quick and equally not utilitarian Lamborghini Urus. The 1% will gobble them up (crash them too) and one day you may see one stuck, spinning its wheels in a parking lot, with 2cm of snow, going nowhere, revving its V12 or bi-turbo V8, as the owner thought that for $400k it shouldn't need snow tires.

Most of these hideous creations will land up in the middle east where they belong and have no taste whatsoever but anything for a buck to please it's new Wall Street owners!

To hell with your core identity and burn the ships.

Lets get real folks. The whole world is turning to SUV's. A Ferrari SUV will still have Ferrari DNA. The greater profits from an SUV will fuel further development of Ferrari sports cars. An SUV will allow Ferrari to expand its range, sales and profits without affecting exclusivity. The waiting list for one right now likely exceeds the first three years production estimates. Its a winning strategy for the next ten years. For those who don't agree calm down and have a little vino.

It will probably be a Stelvio with the Ferrari engine that Alfa Romeo raped for a V6.

The world needs a $300,000 SUV and maybe a nice Ferrari Minivan as well.
These car companies have lost their convictions, moral bearings and a sense of their purpose.
They are all about greed and accumulating cash. They now show us how superficial and brazen they really are.

While I agree with skytop to a degree what I believe is significantly driving these high end builders is both the high cost of ever evolving technology on a small volume business plus the demands of the ever growing list of billionaires for exclusive vehicles.
