Citroen Named Greenest Car Manufacturer of The Year

Citroën’s long-term commitment to the development and production of fuel efficient, low emission vehicles has just received a glowing endorsement in the 2006 GreenFleet Awards, with the company being named “Car Manufacturer of The Year”, ahead of runners-up Toyota and Honda.

The GreenFleet Awards are designed to promote ways of reducing emissions and of increasing awareness, among those responsible for transport procurement, about making greener fuel and vehicle decisions. The Awards were judged by representatives from the Institute of Car Fleet Management, The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and GreenFleet magazine, the only publication dedicated to environmental fleet management.

Sarah Cowell, Editor of GreenFleet magazine, comments, “Citroën’s policy of developing and marketing environmentally-friendly cars that are both practical and affordable played a major part in the Company winning the GreenFleet Car Manufacturer of the Year Award, as did its philosophy of making these fuel efficient and low emission vehicles an inherent part of its model range.”

It has to be said that Citroen also sells a lot of diesel-powered vehicles in Europe. In fact, I once read that Citroen (and the French car industry) produce some of the worlds cleanest diesel cars.

How the hell could they have won over Toyota and Honda?
Citroen doesn't even have a hybrid vehicle.
I must say the judging of this sucks!!

With a response like that (and other responses in other threads), my suspicions were true. Another narrow-minded fanboy.

Hybrids aren't all that. In Europe, diesel is the big player and the Europeans have some damn good diesels, especially the French and Germans.

I must say you are incredibly bias and stupid.

So they don't have a Hybrid? Oooooohh, big deal. Hybrids are only perceived as being 'greener'. Marketing.

The cost to the environment in terms of producing and building a hybrid car outweighs the minuscule benefits of actually driving one.

In fact, because of the environmentally-unfriendly production of batteries, the Hummer H3 is technically a 'greener car', as its production has limited effect on the environment.

And just because you don't know anything about Citroen's, doesn't mean you can label the judging bad.
