Saab To Reskin 9-3 for 2008

Saab To Reskin 9-3 for 2008
The enthusiast Web site Trollhättansaab.net is carrying a report this week that Saab will reskin the 9-3 in mid-2007, with design cues drawn from the Aero X concept.

Inside Line has learned that a full redesign of the 9-3, on the next-generation Epsilon corporate midsize platform, is not scheduled, however, until mid-2010 at the earliest. The larger 9-5 series is still on track for a ground-up overhaul in mid-2009, also on the so-called Epsilon 2 architecture, according to suppliers.

The Web site says the 2008 Saab 9-3 will be unveiled in Sweden in June 2007 and will make its U.S. debut in August 2007. While it will remain on the current Epsilon platform, the heavily face-lifted 9-3 will offer all-wheel drive as an option.

The General Motors subsidiary has phased out the 9-2X wagon, but officials say the brand remains pleased with the performance of the 9-7X utility vehicle. Both are stopgap vehicles based on Subaru and Chevrolet models, respectively. Meanwhile, the company plans a new 9-4X crossover that's slated for debut sometime around 2008

Every year I become more and more suprised to hear that 1) Saab is still around, and 2) that people actually are buying them.

They're actually not bad vehicles. I presently own a Saab 9-3. No worse or better than an Audi, really. I briefly considered buying an Audi at that time (Dec. 2003), but Audi had just emerged from the ignition coil debacle. Interior quality is nowhere near the Audi, but the driving dynamics are.

My friend and my nephew both own 9-3s (current gen).

Neither of them drives as well as my A3 or S4.

They're nice little cars, though.

Saab takes too long to redesign their vehicles. They should redesign faster since their cars aren't selling well. Redesigning cars faster will create more interest.

Actually the 9-3 looks good, but the 9-5 needs a redesign NOW!

I agree with answer ... Saab is barely making it in the US. Just waiting for them to get phased out

I have a 04 9-3 convertible.
It's good, but a tad outdated recently. The interior needs less buttons.

My wifes had 4 9-3's since 2003, and she loves them. I don't mind her driving them either. The 9-3 is one of if not the safest cars on the road, drives nice turn in is better than most and it gets great mpg (35 highway on premium). I just wish they would upgrade a few interior details. window switches, interior handles and add bluetooth.

Four??? In three years??? Do you flip or something?

And I thought trading in my wife's three and a half year old RX was premature.

They REALLY need to redesign the 9-5, not the 9-3!!!

"BMW4me4ever"-

FYI, the 9-3 sells very well. It's the other models that are dragging them down.

I still have a soft spot for Saabs. I owned an '88 900 Turbo coupe.

One of us trades cars every 6-10 months. She puts about 3000-3500 miles a month on hers and I just get bored.

The 9-3 convertible with the Aero package is a very sharp design, actually.
