Alfa's Giulia Sales Continue To Rise Inspite Of Critics
Critics love the Alfa Romeo Giulia. And they hate it.

American luxury car buyers, however, are increasingly interested. The Alfa Romeo Giulia lineup has been available since the tail end of 2016. And every month, right through the spring and into the summer, stories of breakdowns and limp-home modes and on-track failures had no apparent impact on increased demand.

July 2017 was the Alfa Romeo Giulia’s best month on the U.S. market to date.

The article is fake news because it repackages what is really abject failure into a seeming groundswell of interest. Sure, if you look at the percent increase over a previous month, the sales climb seems miraculous, but the minute you compare the volume to the 3 Series or the C Class it becomes pretty laughable. 1100 US sales in July is an utter FAILURE kind of volume. Alfa Romeo would have to DOUBLE its sales to catch up to the class losers--A4 and IS--which have abysmal sales.

Well said, there are a couple of Audi fanboys who still need to learn the difference between percentage growth and actual sales volumes

Maybe just comment on the fox article then Bob? Why bring it here? You're also referencing a retired politician, it might be time to get back to the head doctor or whatever it is you call it in your township

Well, I suppose her name is brought up so much after the election by right-wing conservatives that people might think the 2016 election is still happening but that only serves as deflection for the ineptitude of their own candidate

As a Canadian I find it amazing that despite all that has been said and tweeted, that Trump supporters in the USA remain resolute despite knowing full well they would never leave their wife or daughter in a room alone with President "Grab her by the P**sy" Trump. It is fascinating to the extreme. I was too young to recall Nixon being impeached. It will be entertaining to watch how the next 6 months unfold from my ring side seat here in Canada. Back to cars. I like the Giulia but it is silly name for a sports sedan. But kudos to Alfa for not calling it a AR290S or AR290QF.

And non-Americans who think what they have to say about our government matters are both arrogant and dismissible. May I remind you that your beloved leader is the bastard son of Fidel Castro?

@MDarringer- You can comment on anything you want.. and you will. But I will always stick to the Facts and back them with Proof. Nor will I ever make a personal attack on another Autospies poster. And yes like @carloslassiter said, I would love to take a GQF for a spin. A 500hp ride would be a blast!

Forgive me for ignoring the idiotic political commentary spewed above while I say that if you have not driven the Alfa you should. It is a hoot.

As a serial test driver, I will agree with you, the Alfa Giulia is a sweet ride.

Will I buy one? No. But its an excellent ride - go to your local Alfa Romeo Stealer and try one out.

Glad sales are rising...."More importantly, the Alfa Romeo Giulia easily outsold a number of direct rivals: Volvo S60, Cadillac ATS, and Jaguar XE." Rome wasn't built in a day.

The Alfa is a hoot to drive, but why put up with an unreliable car with shoddy build quality.

Yes - especially when you could buy a used TVR - and get all that for less! And have poor parts availability thrown in too.

THe fact is - FCA cannot market itself out of a paper bag. They had the same problem getting people to buy the much superior Pacifica - over the Leftover Caravan - it took a while to get those sales moving. WE must ALSO remember that we are looking at comparisons in TODAYS market against appliance cars. For most of YOUR and MY life - virtually ALL small performance cars were unreliable (Why would you have a MECHANIC with you to race?) and had shoddy build quality. Especially British sports cars. THere was a time when buying a Jaguar meant wondering which switch on the dash would actually engage the starter and start the engine - and which switch controlled the wipers!

@TomM Your ignorance is pretty laughable. TVRs have always used a lot of readily available parts. Even the bespoke Speed 6 engine is easily replaceable.

Indeed. Fun test drive though.

I did enjoy the drive, but lgiven that you can get a steeply discounted Ghibli for somewhere near the price of the Giulia, not have the reliability issues, and get better build quality, I'd go with the Ghibli. Mind you, the Ghibli isn't perfect, but compared to the Giulia, it's as bulletproof as a Camry.

I didn't realize the Ghibli had a better reliability record than the Alfa.

Not sure I could drive one though. I can't get past the name Ghibli. I had the same problem with the Acura Vigor. Speaking of which, how come they never made a Vim?

The Ghibli isn't perfect, but its idiot lights do not light up like Christmas Eve like they do on the Giulia. Moreover, the Ghibli doesn't go into limp mode. The Ghibli is a very nice Chrysler 300 for all intents and purposes.

All the arguments made against the Giulia are valid. Alfa has to fix these software issues if they are going to continue to make sales headway. However if Alfa can get the glitches on existing customer cars, unsold cars at the dealer and at the factory why wouldn't Alfa have the potential to be a player? Second is it really realistic to expect that out of the gate Alfa is going to sell in the same volumes as its competitors from BMW, Mercedes and Audi. I think it is interesting that Alfa is selling slightly better than Volvo or Jaguar given all it's negative press. Other than its reliability glitches the car is fun to drive, it is refined, it is roomy, it has a better suspension travel over bumps then any BMW 3 series. Ok the interior is not quite up to snuff but that can easily be improved upon over time. The other thing I will point out is that the Maserati Quatroporte and Ghibli were not the most reliable either when they came out either. Look Alfa has a tough road ahead if it does not get its act together. But if they can get things fixed the potential is there for them to make it in the US. Adding the Stelvio could also really boost sales.

You asked: "However if Alfa can get the glitches on existing customer cars, unsold cars at the dealer and at the factory why wouldn't Alfa have the potential to be a player?"

Answer: When cars are brand new, that is when they generate the most enthusiasm from buyers and that's when their reputation is set in stone forever in the consumer's eye. Poisoning the well when the Giulia was introduced was a massive stumble for Alfa Romeo.

GM--for example--has had several launches of a highly anticipated new car that arrived with so many glitches that--even though those issues were resolved--the vehicle never rebounded.

Didn't Bill Clinton settle out of court with 16 women for various sexual assaults during his term as Cigar President? Yet Trump is the big perv -more Libtard fake news facts/bent logic. That is a lot more stinky fingers too -the difference being Trump bragged about it but Clinton (the thief) did it and quite a bit apparently. Funny how only Republicans are guilty of sin yet the left always gets a pass.

Q- Trump is a pig. Clinton was a Pig. And Kennedy was a Pig. But it is much more fun to talk about cars and car news than that 3 ring circus in present White House.
