Ferrari Execs Can't Decide If They Should Build A Low Cost Dino
In spite of kicking the idea around for the past decade, the thought of reviving the Dino moniker for a lower-cost model apparently still leaves Ferrari unsure. While some at the brand seem to feel it would be a good way to draw in new buyers, others believe that the lower price point could downplay the brand's exclusivity—and, in turn, drive other well-off customers away. CEO Sergio Marchionne recently declared that officials in the company are currently split on the decision, playing into the thought that Ferrari should find other ways to appeal to a younger demographic.

They should build something gorgeous, for a change. The image on this page look good.

I looked it up. That is the car that Eric Clapton commissioned. It is supposed to be a homage to the old BB512. The gold wheels and black and red exterior play on design themes from that model. It is based on a F458.

CanadianComments: Some of the things Clapton didn't like about the 458 were:
- Weird looking headlight that run 1/2 up the quarter panel
- Weird looking gaps at the hood's corners (looks like a misfit)

His custom work made a quirky-looking car look like how a Ferrari *should* look. FYI, when I looked up Eric Clapton's Ferrari, I got something else:

I don't know if the image on this page is another Ferrari owned by Clapton, or simply misattributed.

Hard to know. The California is regarded by some as a fake Ferrari or chick car. It is very fast and pretty-ish. Not sure a V6 bi-turbo poor man's F488 would do the job. I would instead work on getting production volume up to a 6 month to 1 year wait for their cars. 2+ years is not a good way to run a business. They must turn away people who want a car soon from now to Lamborghini, McLaren or Porsche.

The image above is disgusting.

I really do not believe that they need a less expensive car in order to increase volume - all they really need do is produce more of the cars they already make. Few of these ever see the road already. Ferrari and several others - are no longer Car manufacturers - they are artists - producing stationary pieces of art.

I saw a video today where they were stating that Ferrari is selling factory warranty extensions now. If your car passes inspection, you can pay $5K a year for V8 cars and $6,700 a year for V12 cars. Most things that are not wear and tear items are covered (engine, transmission etc..). I wonder how many owners of exotic cars would find these prices attractive and a value.

The car in the image is real and was part of their one off client customization program. Eric Clapton had a car built for himself too as have others. The 458MM Speciale was the latest from last year. Clam shell roof. White with stripes. If you have $4M you can have a car done your way too. Or you can get a good deal on a used and very subtle F612 Scaglietti and be the coolest guy stuck in traffic on the way to work. With the millions saved you could even buy the luggage too.

If they build the Dino its not going to be this picture above. I predict Ferrari will build it along with their long rumored SUV. My Ferrari stock will most likely shoot up. It's already worth 2 1/2 times what I bought it for. Yipee!
