TEASED! What Does The All-new BMW M5 NEED To SUCCEED? Weigh In, Spies!
It seems that BMW is trying to pull a little bit of a fast one. While everyone's all jacked up for Monterey Car Week, the company pushed out a teaser clip featuring its next-gen BMW M5.

As with any M product, its debut is highly anticipated.

As of now, expectations are running high although I think I speak on behalf of the enthusiast community that there is a tinge of concern. That's because we know it will feature all-wheel drive and the latest rumors indicate that the all-new M5 will feature an automatic transmission. From the sounds of it, the M5 will be a shell of what it once stood for.

Having said that, we're curious: What do the Spies think the all-new M5 will NEED to SUCCEED in the all-new, high-performance sedan segment?

Will 600 horsepower be enough in a world where the Charger Hellcat has 707 hp and the Cadillac CTS-V is hovering around the 650 hp mark? Is implementing xDrive a genius move or potentially a problematic one? What say you, Spies?

According to the latest reports, the next-gen M5 debuts on August 21. Until then, scope out the BMW-issued teaser video, below.

THey won't have any problem selling them - They are the Drivers performance car in a range where others are moving to Luxury, Since the M is limited production - I am sure they will sell out. AS far as the Auto - that's the way it is - live with it - you cannot get a car with a hand crank starter anymore - I do not see anyone complaining about that either. Today's automatics (Especially that slick Corvette 8 speed) will simply shift faster and more efficiently than even the best race car driver - and as long as you keep them cooled - are simply reliable. THe failure rate of automatic transmission has dropped 80% over the last 10 years - which is why the chain Transmission stores are moving into general repairs -even with Tansmission prices in the $4000 range - they simply do not see enough cars.

Involvement, soulful, character, being with one with driver, steering feel, fun, engaging, uplifting, pure, honest, etc. What it should not be is cold, sterile, fake (sound), intrusive, clinical, bland, distant, etc. Anyone can do fast today. Anyone can put numbers on the board. But its driver involvement and feeling one with a machine that makes great cars enjoyable, memorable and iconic.

Considering the 2017 BMW 540i finished second to last in a recent Car and Driver comparison test, behind Audi's outdated A6, Cadillac's CTS-V and Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic, BMW better pray the new M5 turns it up several notches in the fun to drive and handling categories.

The M5 is such a limited volume model that even if BMW somehow creates a return to the E39 M5's dynamics, it's impact on BMW's overall sales decline in the U.S. will be negligible.

But, according to the article you're using, at least it has the most luxurious interior :)

I had a brand new M5 back in 2002. About a month ago, I was at my local BMW dealer and tried on a new 5 series. I was disappointed that the dash (excepting the GPS) looked 90% the same.

BMW must have cobwebs in their designer's brains.
