TEASED! BMW Shows Off The Next-gen M5, Again. CONFIRMS xDrive And Something Else...
So, BMW has released yet another teaser for the next-gen BMW M5. Something tells me we're getting close to a reveal.

Well, that and BMW also told me we're getting close to a reveal. Just look at the BMW M YouTube channel, which posted the videoclip below. The all-new M5 is coming on Monday.

And, I have a confession. I received the embargo materials today. But, until the embargo breaks — or someone leaks the full banana — I can't tell you a thing about it.

What I can show you, however, is this new teaser clip.

In it there are some seriously quick cuts and one particular cut shows us that the all-new M5 will be receiving a carbon fiber roof. This another weight saving trick that lowers the center of gravity a touch. We're hoping that there's some more weight saving gimmicks in this next-gen M5 because in all honesty it needs all the help it can get. Check out the carbon roof below and then scope out the video.

Let us know if you like what you see so far.

An over achiever on the loose. Watch out for the all-new BMW M5 with M xDrive, arriving on August 21st. In the meantime find out everything and more here: http://www.BMW-M.com/TOO-CONFIDENTIAL

The 5 series in general is a heavy design. A carbon roof, hood, rear trunk lid and carbon or CRP wheels would all help. Titanium exhaust will allow for marginal gains as well. Carbon backed sports seats might be a bit too much for an M5. 4WD system will add unwelcome weight too. As a sport + luxury sedan it can't be a stripped out track monster.

I agree with you that the basic BMW 5 series package is simply too heavy to be a real sports car anymore - and either they - like Mercedes with the E-Class - understand that and build a very high performance Luxury car - or they should start from scratch - noting that my Cadillac CT6 is in the weight category of the 3 series - but has interior space of a 7 series. A new Lightweight Chassis will have to come to meet future MPG standards anyway - so bite the bullet and get to work. GM was able to take 10% - 15% of the weight out of LOTS of its cars in this process- certainly BMW should not be that far behind General Motors.

THe problem is - BMW still makes its cars LOOK SMALLER than they actually are - limiting their desirability as a Luxury sedan (Audi has the same problem) - and they make them too heavy to be a truly inspired large sports sedan.

BMW must be confused. Why is BMW marketing the new M5 as a 4 door drift car.
Also, the music is obnoxious to may appeal to 13 year olds but not to M5 potential buyers.

Not sure if burgundy is the right colour for this type of car?
