Everything We Now Know About The New Jeep Scrambler Pickup
It’s not news to anyone that Jeep has been working on a Wrangler-based pickup truck that’s slated for release into the heating mid-size pickup market by 2019, but what is new is recent information dug up by Jeep Scrambler Forum. The forum’s name itself states one of the findings, that the Jeep pickup truck will be named the Jeep Scrambler, a shoutout to the original Jeep CJ-8 pickup truck with the same name. Members on the forum managed to dig into FCA’s computer database to find everything from CAD images of the truck’s frame to engine codes confirming a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine for a vehicle with a designation code of “JT,” short for “Jeep Truck.”

It's a product that cannot get to market fast enough.

It would be more useful as the 2-door concept truck with a longer bed. But it depends on the priorities of buyers. It may be enough if the bed is only used for grocery shopping.

The vast majority of Wranglers never leave the road. This would NOT be a work truck but a lifestyle vehicle loaded up to the gills with options and driven to impress others. The profit from it will be astounding.

The vast majority of ALL 4x4 civilian vehicles never leave the road - and when you add those that only do so a couple of times a year on well traveled dirt trails - we can say that this truck is in the same category. AND- YES - if people really want to carry cargo - they do not buy a mid-size Pick-UP with a short bed - or even a regular size one with a short bed - they buy long bed REGULAR size Pick Ups - probably heavy duty as well.

Indeed - FCA has a hit on its hands - unless it cannot actually produce enough of them - they will sell all they can make. AND Pricing will probably be competitive with the GM and Toyota mid-sizers at list - but it is the DEALER options added that will get you.

I love it when people state opinion as if it were fact. The vast majority of Wrangler owners do take the Jeeps off roads.

"vehicle development manager, Jim Repp, who states 85 percent of Wrangler owners enjoy taking their SUVs off-roading, making the new Jeep one of the most popular off-road vehicles available.

The percentage reflects owners of both the two- and four-door models but those who opt for the traditional two-door Wrangler tend to tackle tougher terrains with 93 percent of its drivers reporting that they head off-road. The statistic seems even more extraordinary when you consider about 95 percent of SUV owners, in general, never take their vehicles off road. It just goes to show that those who do tend to be in a Jeep!"

@scenicbyway12 That's contradicted by others sources. Jim Repp is doing PR blustering. Jeep for example is doing an AWD version of the Wrangler in addition of the rock-crawler version simply because so many people that buy Wranglers want usable AWD rather than a 4WD system that has tire scrub and rapid tire wear as a result.

@MDarringer "That's contradicted by others sources" Other source are fictional and less backed up by proof, Jim Repp is a reliable source. So what about the AWD version, the current generation had a 2WD option, doesn't seem to change that fact is the Wrangler is most off-roaded SUV out there.

Felicia (@scenicbyway12), you aren't in the retail market. If you were, you know that the "85%" number is as accurate as Sergio saying Jeep will have a 30% sales growth in one year and that in a few it will be a 7 million-unit-a-year brand. You should know by now that public statements by FCA are bogus.

Driving on a dirt road is not going "off road".

When the The Great Wall buys Jeep, they will probably cheapen the build quality to extract maximum profits. Jeep....made in China. Pathetic.

Remember, glorious feckless leader hussein obamma sold Jeep/Chrysler to Fiat for only $1. Yes, ONE DOLLAR.

hussein obamma drives a hard bargain.

I actually would have higher trust in Chinese quality than Italian quality.

A lot more to it than that ($1). Multiple plants closed, losing like $100M a month, a lot of debt etc... Obama helped to save a lot of jobs, and not just the Nissan/Toyota screw the car together jobs in the south. Many of the jobs saved were in engineering and other complex higher paying disciplines across numerous areas, including how to build large scale manufacturing plants.
