IIHS Says Lane Departure Systems Are Preventing 85,000 Accidents Annually
Lane-departure warning systems were once exclusive to the most expensive cars but nowadays, they are prolific among a variety of vehicles. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that is nothing but a good thing.

IIHS vice president of research, Jessica Cicchino, recently conducted a study to determine the effectiveness of lane-departure systems by looking at data from police-reported crashes. What she found is quite remarkable.

Another generated factoid from the less-than-honest IIHS that is designed ONLY to be used as a justification for its owners to raise insurance rates.

Exactly. There is no way any technology of any kind could actually make cars safer.

100% BESIDE the point. Technology can make cars safer but that ignores that the focus of the IIHS is to allow its owners to punish people in older cars without the technology and make new cars even more expensive for rank and file Americans. You are probably too rich to care about normal people.

From a genuine data perspective, it is exceeding hard to measure what DIDN'T happen (It's like counting the people I DIDN't shoot in 2017).

Also remember that "correlation" and "causality" are not the same. Proving that (a) 85,000 fewer accidents were "prevented", and (b) the prevention was caused directly by (not coincided with) lane departure systems, has not been done (from a scientific perspective). FWIW, I believe in science, rather than embracing another's opinion (or deliberate misinformation) as my truth.

Well TomM's boss bought a brand new Phantom the day it came out, so I'm sure he also has the Maybach convertible by now.
