SUV WARS! For LOVE or TECH, Which Would YOU Have? The Audi Q5 vs. Alfa Romeo Stelvio

SUV WARS! For LOVE or TECH, Which Would YOU Have? The Audi Q5 vs. Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Now that Alfa Romeo is actually selling products in a serious way in the States, one has to ask themselves if they're worth considering. THINK: When Maserati brought the Ghibli to the States, many people were bored of their BMW 5-Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class. That's why they initially ran to the Ghibli.

Can lightening strike twice for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)?

With the Alfa Romeo Stelvio inbound for the U.S. market, I think the question is whether or not the company can convince buyers that it's worth checking out. Although I haven't been following the sales figures of the Giulia, I can confirm that from an unscientific perspective they're starting to pop up everywhere in the New York Tri-State region.

In this Auto Motor und Sport head-to-head, the publication put the all-new Audi Q5 up against the likes of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Below is their verdict.

That said, would you be ruled by EMOTION or SENSIBILITY?

CUV's this size are so small and lacking in utility I would get neither of them. You have to go midsize. X5, ML, Q7, Grand Cherokee etc... to have any utility left over with passengers.

Yes indeed - especially for me - being as big as I am.

Frankly - I would want to price the two before I made the decision - today - the discounts are coming fast and furious - and you can no longer assume these two are similar in price.

FCA is learned that its hardline pricing on the Giulia was an error. They tried to NOT do steep discounts on it and people who came in interested simply left and did not come back. That kept sales from taking off. Then when the quality and durability issues became a stain, FCA threw money on the hood. July was the Giulia's best month ever--even though the volume is laughable--and steep discounts are on the hood.

If FCA has any brains, it will make the Stelvio advantageous to own for its price point.

No question: the Audi. I'm no fan of Audi, but I'd rather have Audi's version of quality control and reliability than Alfa-Romeo's tawdry version of them.

Neither. If I buy a SUV I want something big to haul shit in (people or cargo or both) and not these stupid cutesy CUV which are impractical at best and nothing more than glorified, jacked up hatchbacks.

This is why 4 door short box pickups are selling like hotcakes and offer the best compromise and practicality and shall continue to dominate the segment as long as gas remains cheap.

Pries here in Ontario, Canada
Q5 2.0 - $44,950 (base) - $61,300 (SQ5)
Stelvio - $52,995 (base) - $57,495 (Ti Sport)
MDX - $53,890 - $69,990 (hybrid sport)

The MDX hybrid is over $8,000 over than an SQ5.

Don't believe I'm saying this, but I'll pass on the MDX hybrid and use the savings for the anticipated repairs (:D).
