NAME and SHAME: What's The One Automotive BULLET You've Dodged?
It feels like eons ago I put the money down and signed a contract to take delivery of a 2017 BMW M2. It was January 23 and it didn't seem like it would be too long before my all-new ride showed up.

I was wrong. It took forever.

Before the car touched down on July 8 and I received the keys, I found myself dealing with a tug of war. During April and May the only thing on my mind was, "Should I dump the M2 and go for something else?"

My options were between a Porsche 911 (997), a Lotus Evora and a total wildcard, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350. And, if I am honest, I must admit I came very, very close to canceling the M2 and putting an order in for a flat gray GT350.

Boy, I am glad that didn't happen.

This week I am piloting the GT350 in and around the New York Tri-State region and there's no other way to describe it. Soup to nuts, this vehicle is awful. When I first experienced the GT350 it felt OK — it was on a track. On public roads though there's so much wrong going on that it's actually saddening to me. To say I am happy I didn't count my lucky stars would be an understatement.

All that said, I've got to ask: What's ONE automotive bullet that you've DODGED throughout your years of owning vehicles?

Interesting, would like to hear more details, I dodged an early E46 M3 which had main bearing issues, got an M5 instead.

Strange. Most people rave about the GT350.

BMW snobs bashing Mustangs is almost a cliche. Consider the puffy tone of the writing. Phases like "eons ago" and "touched down" are designed tobe dramatic. This is just a BMW owner seeking to make his vehicular chose seem better to himself by bashing a car that will beat it at the track.

I could care less if the M2 gets beaten at the track because I drive on public roads.

The GT350 is awful on public roads. Simple as that.

@jones

That may be the dumbest thing anyone on AutoSpies has ever commented. And the competition is STEEP!

I agree with @jonesharrison This was just a hit piece to bash the Mustang and use the bias of that to appear to convince people that the M2 is so much better. As for intellectual laziness...that would just be too easy.

"On public roads though there's so much wrong going on that it's actually saddening to me." --- could you elaborate a bit.
Lengthy reviews by owners and professional reviewers would have us believe otherwise.
You, obviously, have a different opinion..
"so much wrong going on" is intellectually lazy and not very enlightening...

@Hawk

It's a short post, not a review. Of course I am not going to detail my findings. Hell, I still have the car until Thursday.

It's intellectually lazy to start making assumptions rather than ask "Why?"

So you insulted and debased the GT-350 but never said a word about what YOU objected to. That is SHAMEFUL reporting and piss poor, irresponsible writing.

Agent007R you are truly not qualified to write any reviews or articles.

I'll agree with you there.

The Mustang Shelby GT350 looks killer especially in the flat gray paint. To your point, the GT is a great offering.

Nothing about the Mustang appeals to me, so the only thing surprising here is that Agent00R ever considered buying one in the first place.

"From reading your post, you only prefer autonomous car powered by unicorn farts."

I'm not sure if you were addressing me with this, but since you exhibited a modicum of creativity I will respond to you.

I hate the Mustang because it has all the style and sophistication of those crappy Trans Ams the guys in remedial classes drove to high school. But if you are one of those guys, I could see why this would appeal to you.

One again @carlosasshatter shows his bigotry and snobbery. It really is too bad he can't go back to his beloved Chrysler Cordoba.

I notice that whenever you are embarrassed you resort to name calling.

I would suggest instead you develop a thicker skin, and more refined taste in automobiles. No one who is successful aspires to drive a Mustang, it is a vehicles specifically designed for people who watch WWE and think a trip to Hooters is a fun night out.

I don't I've ever dodged a bullet in terms of choosing one car over another but I have taken a bullet, Alfa, and looking back I don't really regret it. I just won't go down that road again, or at least until surveys, ownership reports, etc. show otherwise.

The 159 and Brera have faces that are (1) more attractive and (2) more modern looking than the atrocious Edsel faces of the Giulia and Stelvio. Beautiful cars the 159/Brera were.

One of the local car nuts has a 164 (gorgeous car), Milano (ugly), and a GTV6 (mildly awkward). They run (usually). The Milano is so strange looking, it's genius. The GTV6 is a pretty sweet car.

He had planned to get a Giulia, but once he heard how horrible the reliability is, he decided to wait. He bought a steeply discounted Ghibli instead.
