ExxonMobil Comes Under Fire For Lying About Global Warming
ExxonMobil is a company that needs no introduction, but just to put things into perspective, it's the largest of the world's "big oil" corporations and sits in seventh place globally regardless of the type of activity when it comes to revenues. Oh, and in 2016, ExxonMobil registered a net income of $7.84 billion.

Since it deals with oil and gas, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the company is one of the most active lobbyists against global warming and the idea that it is caused by burning fossil fuel, something it's been doing for a long, long time. However, when this kind of money is involved, you shouldn't take things at face value.

Here is what I don't get. Regardless of your feeling on if global warming (or climate change that the libs like to state so a fraction of temperature change north or south, or any storm is an issue due to it), we can all agree air quality is reduced. Why don't the libs focus on the hard facts we have?

jeffgall wrote "...Why don't the libs focus on the hard facts we have?..." -- That's a valid question! The same question can be applied to the Republicans, (small "c") conservatives, right-wing extremists (not all the same thing). Considering events over the past half year, this is a REALLY good question... for everyone!

So Exxon lied about something that does not exist? The global warming BS has been debunked by science. I say high-five Exxon.

Sorry - but you are wrong - Matt - there are only a handful of real scientific studies that argues against global warming without establishing that as fact - while over 99% of the scientists and studies in the last 10 years agree that global warming does exist - the oceans have risen - and the poles are melting - all of which ARE measurable. And worse- most of the claims against global warming do not DENY its existence - they simply say it is a natural occurrence.

It is funny that most of the studies people claim prove against global warming are done by economists - and book keepers - and accountants - and Alt-Right white supremacists.

Does anyone remember Philip Morris and the decades they told us that smoking is just fine, and unrelated to addiction and disease, and there was a pile of "independent studies" to support that? Remember when "4 out of 5 doctors recommend Camel brand cigarettes"? Well, as the smoke settled (no pun intended), MOST of us came to understand that:

- The tobacco companies all knew that smoking was addictive and absolutely causally connected to a variety of diseases

- The tobacco companies revised their products to make them more addictive, to ensure customers

- The tobacco companies paid for "research" that "proved" cigarettes were perfectly fine, and there was no need to worry about them.

- LOTS of people were fooled into believing what they were told, often citing the (tobacco companies' sponsored) "research" as proof that smoking was okay.

- During this period of misinformation (a polite word for blatant lies in the name of profit), there were voices of descent, but they were shouted down by the hazard deniers.

- All you had to do was ask yourself: Who benefits most from unrestricted cigarette sales, and how? (Answer: The tobacco companies, in the way of fabulous profits)

So Exxon's own records show that they've known for decades that their product contributes to global climate change and is harmful to human health. Reread my previous points, and apply them to oil. Exxon's admissions are not the isolated allegation. They're just more proof that the public has been lied to in the name of fabulous profits. And yes, there are still believers claiming smoking is harmless, just as there are folks saying that humans don't affect the climate (burning 2.5 cubic miles of oil annually has no effect), never mind the detrimental health effects it causes. This is where the pro-big-business extremists cry "war on oil" and "war on business."

@TomM You're a Socialist-Fascist Democrat and Global Warming is your secular religion, so you are at best biased or at worst you're a mouth whore to the mindset.

The fact is that the science shows that were currently COOLING. The science shows that the oceans have not risen.

MDarringer: Based solely on your posts, you really do come across as one of the Tiki-Torch crowd -- full of hate and venom against anyone who is unlike you. And like a few of those marchers whose identities were made public, and who as a consequence received a dose of unpleasant backlash, and who went on to complain that others are picking on them, you go on a similar tirade when anyone calls you out, accurately identifying you as an angry, hateful individual. You simply accuse them of your own despicable traits.

Psychologists examined Internet trolls and found that they are “narcissistic, psychopathic, and sadistic.” Sadly, you come to mind when I read this :-(

jeffgall, haven't you learned by now that facts don't matter to leftists? They are stuck on the old '97% of all scientists' lie that has been perpetuated over the years. As long as they hold 'learned people' like Bill Nye in high esteem and continue to beleive the windbag AlGore, nothing will change. Except the climate, of course. It is constantly changing.

Where in God's name do you get your information? What reputable scientists have "debunked" climate change? How can you possibly be this ignorant?

Sure, all climate science is a hoax, and the best scientists from Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world couldn't possibly figure that out and went along with it with their carbon-reducing initiatives. Only the American scientists (along with all the genius Republicans living happily in trailer parks cheering for their favorite NASCAR team) knows the truth, and they "tell it like it is" as our president!!

Bravo! Bravo!

Something just occurred to me: In light of these revelations, where Exxon's **OWN** audit trails disclose that (a) they knew their product contributes to global climate change and to harming human health, and (b) they lied about it for decades saying "there is no climate change, no human connection" -- there are STILL those believers who insist climate change is a hoax, and humans are not causing it or contributing to it.

This is like Phillip Morris coming clean, finally admitting that cigarettes have serious health risks (which they did), and some folks still crying "Fake news!"

It's like a TV Evangelist admitting he had sex with a hooker and a goat, and his believers loudly and proudly proclaiming, "NOT TRUE! That's an atheist conspiracy to besmirch his good name."

I can only shake my head at how some people's minds work.

So the feckless, imbecile hussein obamma deceitfully lied to America for 8 long years. Of course, the two tier American justice system let his crimes and corruption go and neither hussein or the other traitor, thief and lyer Hillary Rotten Clinton were charged with anything. That is the unhappy state of the union today.

skytop: It is a painfully sad fact that the previous US President and Administration committed horrific crimes against humanity (through orders and policy), for which they were never tried, and most of which were not even acknowledged.

Unfortunately, that's only half the story: It didn't ended with the change in Presidency :-(
