Porsche Plans To Enter Formula 1 In 2021
Porsche looks set to return to Formula 1 as an engine supplier from 2021, when the sport introduces new, lower-cost engine regulations.

Speaking to Autosport at the weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, Lutz Meschke, deputy chairman of Porsche's executive board, said F1 “could be one of the right places” for the brand.

"As you know, Formula E is very important for us now, and F1 is always a good topic to think about,” he said. “And I think we are in quite good discussions regarding the new engine."

I'm beginning to wonder how much money VW has. The payout of their criminal moves on the rolling coal incident was massive. They were able to pay out without having to jettison assets and now they have gobs of money to spend on a hobby.

Indeed. But this is a half effort. You are PORSCHE. Do the WHOLE CAR. Same advice goes with the case of the McLaren team. Maybe this new set of regulations will be the starting point for more complete efforts by the big factory teams.

Why not "Arbeit Macht Frei" and/or "Kraft durch Freude"?

Do yourself a favor VAG/Porsche/VW, stay out of F1 and concentrate on Formula E and ALMS.

Even if you are able to land a "World Champion" Team(read McLaren or Red bull), you're still going to need some time to become competitive, even if you have been secretly building & testing this engine for a few years.

More importantly, unlike Williams, the teams mentioned above will gladly throw a bus on top of you if you are not willing by the last third of the season, probably if you are not challenging for podiums by the end of the first race.

Not sure what F1 teams are spending 2017, but I think when Toyota pulled the plug they were spending close to $500m USD on their effort. To note, they were doing both the chassis and supplying their own engine, a complete package. Results on the track however were few and far between.
