Environmentalists Sue The Fed For Failure To Fine Gas Guzzlers
Three environmental groups in the U.S. filed a lawsuit against the federal government on Thursday for delaying the rollout of higher “gas-guzzler” penalties for automakers producing new vehicles that fail to meet minimum fuel-economy standards.

The Center for Biological Diversity, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Sierra Club filed suit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, challenging the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s decision in July to suspend a 2016 Obama administration regulation that more than doubled penalties.

Automakers had protested the hike, saying it could increase industry compliance costs by $1 billion annually.

So to recap, when fascist socialists don't get fascist socialist results, they sue.

Why should there be a gas guzzler tax? Free market, I say.

If you want a 10mpg car, buy it and don't bitch.

If you wan a 40mpg car, buy it and don't be a little bitch who acts morally superior

You should think about the words you use in your post else you might be seen as a first class idiot.
(Even considering that the average American seems to have no idea what the word "socialist" means.)

And yet, if you look at how Liberal Democrats operate and their rhetoric, it is quite fascist and socialist--usually ideologies that do not mix--then factor in the Nazi idoeology from their puppet master George Soros.

I guarantee I'm better educated than you are, but I'd have to give a fling fcuk what people here thought of me to kowtow to you admonition. But since I do not value your opinion in any way, I will carry on as the wayward son that everyone love to hate and hates to admit they love.

Argument from authority eh? I'm pretty sure if you have to tell someone you're more educated than they are to prove a point....you don't have a strong one.

"I'm going to spend all my time refuting your comment.....but I don't care at all about your opinion..."

Weak.

So to recap, there are people and entities on both sides of every law on the books in the USA with a lot of money in play trying to peddle influence and get things changed in their favour. Not a big surprise. This is an existing law that was changed. So they want it changed back. It will have to work itself out in court. BTW if you have the $$$ to buy a car that actually still qualifies for the gas guzzler tax in 2017 (that can't be too easy), you can pay the tax owed.

Saying that one thinks Michelle Obama is a man in drag is not racist. There is no parameter of race in the statement. Now, if YOU assume that because Michelle is black that the statement is racist, then you are the racist for putting that parameter in where it was not before. Clearly, you're one of those idiot Liberals that calls everything racist whether it is or it isn't.

Supporting comments from an individual that believes the previous President of the U.S. was born abroad because he is black (birther movement) is racist. Saying 'Amen' to a statement like that tells us all we need to know. All we already knew about you. Resorting to calling me racist because I called out your racist comment is commonplace among individuals such as yourself. Your comments about the former First Lady not withstanding. However, it's pretty obvious where you're coming from.

Seems like a bunch of folks on this thread complaining about a law they do not understand. Go look at the list of cars from 2016 that have to pay the gas guzzler tax. Why should anyone care that someone buying something like a Chiron, Aventador, V12 Ferrari, McLaren etc.. Or even a 6.4L Challenger has to pay a bit of tax? The list represents a handful of cars sold into the USA each year in a market of 17m units. Go back to hating clean air and safe cars. Without CAFE and NHTSA etc, you could have air quality like in Beijing China and tin can cars with no crash protection, seat belts or head rests.

Why do you think it is OK to legislate morality?

CANADIANCOMMENTSCANADIANCOMMENTS - 9/9/2017 12:57:24 PM

What has morality got to due with it? Clean air and safe passage (roads and vehicles) are logical and benefit all of society and costs less (healthcare) in the long run. Nobody is banning cars that are gas guzzlers. Legislation has proven necessary to make sure the food you eat, the toys your kids play with and the car you drive is safe. Profits and share value get in the way of making the right decision in regards to the end use customer too much of the time as history has shown (Pinto, lawn darts, etc).

@canadiancomments If you are going to penalize people for buying a gas guzzler, there is an implied moral construct. Thus, MPG taxation is legislating morality. You're one of those socialists that believe that if we just pass enough laws to reduce freedom, we will achieve utopia. You're delusional in your socialist beliefs.

MD- No, I am not delusional. I just live in a society that looks after its citizens vs a "live free or die" "fend for yourself" attitude that seems to have woven itself into part of the US consciousness. If you want to ride a motorcycle without a helmet in the USA you can. In Canada you can't and you will get a ticket. Better for society that it does not have to support you for years as a vegetable with a brain injury with a law that keeps you safe. Call it impinging on personal freedoms if you want. I call it better. We also tax cigarettes, liquor, beer and gasoline in Canada. Very soon pot will be sold at government facilities in Ontario and heavily taxed as well. Some call them "sin" taxes. All are there to influence society away from things that ultimately cost a lot in the long run (liver disease, divorce, family break up, domestic violence, cancer, dirty air). Sometimes the government makes the choice for you (wear a helmet) other times it tries to get you to make a better choice (cigarettes). If this is too much you can always move or get involved to change the laws.
