#IAA: Honda Uncloaks The Urban EV Concept And Makes Plan For Market In 2019

Honda has confirmed that a production version of the Urban EV Concept will be made in 2019.

The electric car, the car maker’s first for Europe, is built on a new dedicated electric platform and “sets the direction for the technology and design” of its future EVs.

The car maker already sells an electric Clarity hatchback model in the US and Japan.

Exactly! What's missing from the general EV market (well from the mainstream automakers) are EV models that actually look FUN to drive. Yes, the Prius are small & efficient & trusted...but the overall design uses the basic bland Toyota formula. The Prius (EV & hybrid) was consumer hit but it's definitely not a preferred model over some of the available competing models today.

Tesla has injected excitement into the EV segment with sporty models with wild performance (if so equipped) that have also worked to inspire other startup companies to develop their own fun-to-drive EV cars.

So, seeing this Honda EV concept is exciting as was many older VW EV/hybrid concepts that never came to fruition.

Channeling the 1970's Mk1 Golf. VW could sue.

Look at the first Civic and you'll see Honda heritage too in addition to the VW Rabbit. Either way, both are good antecedents to evoke.

Very cool, does look extremely VWish though. Try again but use the 1980s CRX Si as your inspiration.

It took more than a year for Honda designer to "re-decorate" the Model 3 interior. Now it looks like an uncomfortable couch at the dentist office. I want it in plaid.

Looks very CVCC. A good thing.

Does harken back to the CVCC, not much any VW. Honda first to follow Tesla dash design?

Well whatta ya now - a big, plain dashboard that looks like a Tesla Model 3's.

It's becoming obvious that future cars will look & feel like appliances.
And yet... that doesn't seem like a bad thing at all.

Cool looking concept. Sucks that Honda is basically saying that, by the looks of the love seat, it will drive itself.
