BMW Alpina D3 vs Lexus IS 220d TTE

BMW Alpina D3 vs Lexus IS 220d TTE
This is from www.germancarzone.com. Someone posted a review between two new models from BMW and Lexus. Below is the summary from the translator. Click on the link to read the review, which he so kindly translated from the German.

=================================================

Just found this on Autobild. Translated the article for your reading pleasure. The BMW has the Lexus beat in all areas except fuel consumption. They didn't pick a winner since this was simply a comparison between two new technologies. As usual though, the BMW was more fun to drive and had the better handling traits as well and was more comfortable than the Lexus too.

BMW Alpina D3: 200-hp, 0-100 km/h = 7.7 seconds

Lexus IS220 TTE: 208-hp, 0-100 km/h = 8.9 seconds

I think the Alpina D3 is quite a handsome car.

All IS models except the IS350 look cheap to me.

The interior of the Lexus IS looks cheap to me - in these pictures.

Drabby gray colors don't look very HQ. And before you say it, yes, the BMW interior looks cheap too.

THE INTERIOR OF THE LEXUS IS IS OVERRATED.

That's not a rant, but an observation. Of course, Lexus fanboys could never admit this. Look at me, I like BMW, but I am the first to admit that BMW interiors aren't up to par with the competition, material wise.

The IS interior is nothing special. Overrated.

I am not carwimmer, but I share his opinion about the IS interior, which in this picture looks quite cheap. I am a reader, but not a member, of German Car Zone. This article he posted caught my eye because it was a tuned Lexus vs a tuned BMW.

Yes, I've seen them upclose as well and I'll give you that that it's better than the BMW 3-Series interior. Hell, I just posted my last comment above to bait some Lexus fanboys (notice I said fanboys, not fans). ;)

It's not a comparison, but take a look at what this tuner has done with the 330d Touring and the 535d.

The Lexus IS looks as good as a Toyota Celica and is no match with the BMW machine.

In fact the Lexus looks like a wedge.

I think the current 3 Series is a very coherent design.

It looked very fresh when it came out, and it still does.

I can't say the same about the 5 Series, though.

The BMW looks great with the body word Alpina has done. I'm not a fan of the 20-spoke wheels they have been using for over 20 years, but it looks good. It's headlights aren't stretched practically half way back over the quarter panel like the previous generation ES.

Let's just face it right here and now, the Lexus doesn't have any character like the BMW has.

No, a car has to be able to entertain its driver to have character.

I, too, think Lexus interiors are overrated. They may be built well but they don't look much better than BMW interiors. Mind you, "looks" and "build" are different things.

Then what about every other CAR MAGAZINE like edmunds saying the Interior of A LEXUS is just PERFECTION.PERFECT for every one.PERFECT u can get.

btw i think it's the Audi interiors which are most OVERRATED.Very plain, very bland.

Actually, every published magazine article always comments in Audi's class-leading interior execution in every Audi they test.

The new LS's interior simply looks like nothing special compared to the A8's. The A8 has a design exclusive to itself, while the LS's interior looks like it came straight out of te IS and was enlarged.

but we measured a dissapointing 10.2 second 0-100 km/h for the regular IS220d. Every Audi A4 2.0 TDI, BMW 320d or Mercedes C220 CDI leaves it in the dust.)

Car magazines have their own opinions and favorites. So just because they say Lexus interiors are the best doesn't mean anything.

Some Lexus interiors are overrated. The IS, GS and RX for example are IN MY OPINION totally overrated.

We own an RX and I completely agree. The RX's interior does not look good at all compared to X5, RR Sport, Q7, etc. Even the Touareg has a more cohesive design. The only SUVs in the class that I think are worse are the Infiniti FX and the Mercedes ML.

I think the ML interior is actually on par with the RX. The FX is just pure trash IMO.

yes! what do you expect its a german review i believe that elsewhere the review would be different trust me i have read tons of reviews from mags to people and this one about interiors and comfort is a revelation!

I like the interior on our ML...very clean, ergonomically friendly, and definitely a cohesive design...I prefer it to the interior of our old Cayenne S. I agree about the crappy FX interior and I also think that, although I like th exterior styling, the RR Sport's interior doesn't do it for me, which is a shame because the daddy Range Rover's cabin is plush.
