2018 Lexus RC F To Add More HP In Quest To Keep Up With M4 And RS5

Lexus will extract more power from the naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine of its RC F when the car is facelifted for 2018.

The BMW M4 and Audi RS5 rival will remain a unique offering in its segment with atmospheric induction, but mid-life improvements are predicted to edge its high-revving engine's maximum output beyond 470bhp, giving the super-coupé more clout in the fight against its boosted competition.

The RCF is one of my guilty pleasures. It's a boulevard bruiser wrapped in origami. I'd say get one before Lexus comes to their senses and pulls the plug. The RC/RCF simply does not sell well, but it's a tremendous car.

A very common trend for the brand. Blown up in hype at introduction and viewed as the "M4/C63/RS5 killer" but proved virtually non-competitive and was quickly forgotten and rarely ever mentioned in those circles. Same with the GS-F. Maybe the LC500 will change that, but comments about that car have been fairly mixed with folks smitten by the styling and engine note but let down by the driving experience. Maybe the rumored "F" variant will fix that, but I fear it will only make the car heavier with more stout chassis/suspension parts, larger wheels and tires, and bigger engine.
It's like Lexus just can't get a total, complete package right with regard to performance cars. The RC-F has the power but doesn't have the handling ability and is too heavy. The GS-F has the handling capabilities but doesn't have the power to take it to the M5 and E63. The only defense folks can muster for buying Lexus' F models over their German counterparts is reliability. Well, unfortunately for them, Benz, BMW, and Audi have all been doing pretty well in that regard.

Audi and Bmw are just marketing companies 1st and build POS vehicles as their secondary business! They have fantastic MARKETING HP BUT...how much is put to the wheels....take what they print and deduct 40% from their figures! funny thats the same 40% in depreciation after 3yrs. of ownership. Thats if people actually are stupid enough to BUY it. 85% of Bmw and Audis are leased...why? people don't want to own POS! it will cost TONS of money to fix and maintain POS. People buy Lexus, and leases is only 30%! If bmw and audis didn't offer leases...they would be out of business! except for the parts and service dpt..making tons of money from suckers like you and mdarringer!

@jameswisrik Setting your homophobia aside, I know more than a few older gay gentlemen and a 3 Series is NOT what they are driving.

I applaud Lexus and Ford for keeping V8's. While the M4/RS5 have power the engines lack soul and character IMHO. I owned a M4 one briefly but missed the insane E92 M3 V8.

I don't know why Lexus even bother to try to put out so-called, "performance cars?" Their cars have never been and will never be competitive on any race tracks. Heck, even the LF-Gay ... I mean LF-A costs three times that of the Nissan GT-R but performs poorly in comparison. Lexus should stick to what it does best, namely reliable, isolated and somewhat cushy rides. Leave performance to the big boys.
