Politicians Come Together To Ban Uber From London

A group of 10 politicians is asking London's transportation agency not to renew the license that allows Uber to operate in the British capital.

MPs from the Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat parties sent a letter to Transport for London urging the agency not to renew Uber's operator license when it expires at the end of the month, reports Business Insider. In the letter, MPs called Uber an "unfit and improper operator," claiming it doesn't do enough to ensure passenger safety. They accused Uber of failing to report sexual assaults of passengers by drivers, and claimed such incidents are an all-too-common occurrence.

Of course, they probably all have chauffeurs and have never had to wait for a cab.

The problem with MOST car service rides - like UBER - is that - in a car that is NOT licensed and inspected to be a Taxi - insurance is not verified. In the USA - and person's personal car insurance does not cover business use - as UBER would be. ANd as a result - if a problem happened - the only recourse you have might be to sue the driver of the car for his personal money - if he has any.

A woman in NYC was in an UBER in such a situation - when and accident happened in which she was paralyzed - and when the Uber driver tried to submit a claim to his insurance - it not only was denied - but his insurance was cancelled because he is using his car for business. THe woman sued the driver - and eventually ended up putting a lien on his house - but certainly did not get enough to compensate. THe UBER company insurance policy is not a PRIMARY policy

Uber drivers SHOULD have to at least show that they have commercial insurance to cover them - something not currently required.

Moreover, a passenger is uninsured if the car is being used as a taxi.
