STUD OR DUD? Volvo's XC40 Uncovered Ahead Of Reveal

The Volvo XC40 has been leaked again, this time reportedly by the brand's Hungarian arm in the form of a trailer published too soon.

Full styling of the car was shown, including the interior, which draws clear inspiration from the larger 90 Series cars, albeit with the colourful flourishes Volvo promised before the reveal. The leak, first reported by Carscoops, also shows that wireless smartphone charging will feature, as well as textured trim on the dashboard.

If you love blind spots, this should be genius.

Modern, clean, unique and fantastic, so I'm not surprised Darringer doesn't like it.

Why - with the exception of the TVR - Matt has always waited for an actual production version to say he liked something. he might like a feature or a style - but he virtually always queestions what it will be like when it is produced.

The styling is nothing special for a Volvo either. IF you like Volvo styling it may be modern to you - I do not like Volvo Styling or Interiors that much - and this is more of the same - blah!to me

Carlos, I gave no indication as to my opinion of the styling. Try to read and comprehend as opposed to just being the easily triggered idiot you always are.

@TomM And had you actually read what I said about the new TVR, you'd see that I was actually critical of its looks. You really ought to go back to blowing the flute and bitching to your union about getting paid for your song lyrics.

The video comes across (to me) like the stuff I've seen at Apple product launches. (When I hear Jony Ive's voice, I just can't take anything he says seriously, as he has delivered far too many "flash over substance" fluff talks). They're just car features[1], but the video makes them out to sound like a Lifestyle and Life Altering Changes.

The exterior styling is bit "too trucky" for my tastes.

[1] Features that show nicely as a sound-bite in a video, but *might* not be implemented well in practice. Typically, you discover this only after you've bought the product.

Stunningly gorgeous XC90.
Perfectly sexy XC60.

Now, this. The XC40. Front end, nice. Back end, nice. Profile, horrible, not far removed from a Jeep and doesn't look good for a Tier 2 luxury brand.

Very Jeep like. Cheap look for what should be a very nice SUV.

But so far Volvo's new product line is not the radical unit volume increase. Spare me the % arguments because that does not tell the real story. Relative to the market, Volvo is still languishing terribly. Their current sales will annualize at 73.6K units which is a 10K DROP over last year. The XC90 and S90 are horribly overpriced and for that price, a Mercedes is simply better.

Who was talking anything about sales?

This is the automotive styling equivalent to stubbing one's toe.
