The 2018 Car, Truck And Utility Vehicle Of The Year Semifinalists Have Been Named — Place Your Bets!

Every year the North American Car of the Year judges get together and craft a list of the best cars, trucks and utility vehicles — utility vehicles were added in 2017. It's a bit exciting, however, it's also a bit...interesting.

That's because year-over-year we tend to disagree with the panel's decisions. Once and a while they get it right but it seems a bit fishy to us. That said, the organization just released its list of semifinalists and we're curious to get your take on it.

Car
Kia Stinger for its significance to the direction of its brand, but we all know it will depend on which among Honda and Toyota give the highest bribe.

Expedition

Frankly - from that list - I am reminded that the Chevy Vega was a car of the year - No car on that list really deserves the title. And WHY is the Tesla Model 3 not on the list? (IT doesn't deserve a win - but at least an also ran among also rans)

The Truck will be one of the FORDS - Likely the Expedition.

I find the inclusion of the Honda Odyssey to be peculiar -it is certainly not an SUV. OF course - where should it go?

I suspect the Volvo is going to win for SUV.

Indeed. The North American Car of the Year is a pretty pointless and dubious "honor" much like how Motor Trend's Car of the Year is meaningless.

TRUCK:

Car - either the stinger for significance or Lexus LC because of its looks
Truck - Not much of a choice, suppose I would go with the Chevy, just because
SUV - Land Rover Discovery as a true competitor to the Germans in this segment or the VW Atlas for the move into a new market
