Mini Bumping Specs On New John Cooper Works Models

Mini may have wowed the crowds with its crazy-looking JCW GP concept but the more regular models are also getting ready to excite them with their planned facelift.

The company visited the Nurburgring for some testing of the facelifted version of the three-door John Cooper Works model which will adopt some small visual updates along with some slightly bigger changes under the skin.

For starters, the facelifted line of Minis will get a redesigned set of headlights and taillights with a new signature that adopts the Union Jack design as previewed by the company’s concepts in Frankfurt.

The last gen mini had a healthy dose of torque steer and I thought over-damped stiff suspension. I haven't really kept up with this new gen but I do like the looks of the new Clubman.

The GTI is virtually free of all FWD issues, but the Mini is still a "darty" handful. The GTI can be driven intuitively. The ST versions of the Fiesta (defunct) and Focus (soon to go on hiatus) are better resolved than the Mini as well though not as perfectly as the GTI. For the price, the GTI is better in every way including reliability. Minis still have nagging issues and EXPENSIVE repairs out of warranty...and you thought VW was an expensive car to fix...

The Clubman is as well behaved as a GTI, part of the charm of the mini (hatch) is its darty-ness but the short wheel-base helps with that. The Clubman is a much better comparison to the GTI sharing similar lengths, wheelbases, etc.
