BMW Says It Won't Build A Hypercar Because They Already Are The Ultimate Driving Machine

While arch-rival Mercedes-AMG hogs the headlines with its new multi-million dollar Project ONE hypercar, the boss of BMW’s M high-performance division insists it’s not interested in developing such a high-priced limited-run vehicle.

Nor will M develop an equivalent to AMG’s GT family of sports cars, which are based on a bespoke chassis.

So, in other words, they want to be the Honda/Toyota of the luxury performance cars. Instead of having niche products that add appeal and exclusivity to a brand they want their performance cars to be a dime a dozen. Not sure that's a strong prestige-building strategy.

Bmw is no longer in the Hyper Performance car market - they are now mass marketers of pseudo-luxury-performance cars - and they are falling behind in that group too.
