If You Are Going To Replace That Aging 5 Series With An Alfa Romeo, Then Get Ready To Wait Longer
A few months ago, Alfa Romeo outlined plans to build a new flagship sedan positioned above the Giulia to rival the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Audi A6, just as the Giulia is competing against the BMW 3 Series. At the time, it was rumored to arrive in 2018 as a large sedan similar in size to the 5er with a 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter gasoline engine from the Giulia with RWD and AWD. However, a new report by Automotive News suggests that Alfa’s new flagship sedan has been delayed until 2021.

Maybe an E class - certainly not an Alfa

You'd have to be a crazy Italian business man who lights BMWs on fire to replace a BMW with an Alfa Romeo.

The grill would look even better with the classic horizontal bars across it.

Even if the Giulia were not a quality/reliability turd burger, it would have been a tough sale against the 3 Series, C Class, and A4.

Even if the Giulia had been successful, making a car the size of a Ghibli and priced like one would have been stupid.

The Giulia should have been a Maserati, but that would have trashed Maserati's reputation which--compared to Alfa-Romeo--is like the Virgin Mary versus Satan.

Casting Alfa-Romeo as an Italian "Subaru" i.e. a turbo/AWD brand would have been genius.

But FCA has an idiot in charge.

Out of all BMW's current offerings - I would postulate that the new 5-series - 530i, 540i, and M550i - is really the best of all BMW's currently on offer.

I think its better than the E300 certainly.
