Infiniti Says It Needs A Halo Car To Compete With Tesla And Porsche
Infiniti’s current range is crying out for a halo performance model. Nissan's premium car division has been teasing about its desire to build a supercar for some time now, as shown by concepts like the hybrid Emerg-E concept shown at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, but now we have a potential reveal date. Autocar reports that Infiniti will finally reveal its long-awaited new performance car in concept form at next year’s Detroit Auto Show in January, before the production model launches in 2019.

If people don't take your regular offerings seriously having a halo car won't help. Just ask Acura how the new NSX is helping sales.

Infiniti doesn't need a halo car. They need a totally new design department. The stuff in their showroom looks dreadful, and they don't have the stellar reputation ("quality for less", "fewer defects") or the strong customer base that Lexus enjoys.

Don't think they need this vehicle. It's too niche and their current lineup is doing well as Infiniti and Audi have been the only luxury brands consistently up over the last several months.

Indeed - there is no compelling reason to buy ANY Infiniti vehicle -they are second tier luxury cars - priced above the market. Even Lexus - which sells the Es/Is and the Rx/NX and little else - really is not a top tier premium manufacturer.

Ironically - the only Infiniti car that ever was compelling was the original Q45 with the active suspension - but the problem is Infiniti was and is just badge engineering - virtually ALL of their cars are Nissan Japanese cars - rebadged - with a little more leather available.

In order to become a real competitor to any premium brand - it would require Nissan to make Infiniti a separate entity with their own platforms for most vehicles - and at least some engines of their own too. History is strewn with badge engineered products - like the Cadillac Cimarron - and they all fail to garner anything worthwhile. The won't do this one - which is why Denysschen eventually had to leave.

I'd suggest that EMERG-E is the worst name applied to a car since the Vigor.

Infiniti needs names:

Skyline / a mid-sized sedan that replaces all their sedans.
Dangan / a swoopy EV coupesedan
GTR / the GTR placed in the correct show room
and so on with the crossovers

Infiniti needs to get some driving feel in their electric steering.

While they make decent cars, I feel they need a better entry level car, which I know the A-Class based model is coming, and less suvs.

They need a true Model 3 competitor and a cheaper, rwd 2 series competitor.

infiniti needs to bring back the normal names ex35, m35, g35, q45 , fx35 and slaughter the entire room of morons that approved calling everything q/qx !!

Infiniti needs to release the new QX50, QX80, and redesign the Q70 ASAP. They can worry about Porsche after they then prove they can design and sell a proper flagship, sheesh!!
