California Wants To Alienate The Auto Industry With A Ban Of Internal-Combustion Engines

The internal combustion engine's days could be numbered in California, where officials are mulling whether a ban on sales of polluting autos is needed to achieve long-term targets for cleaner air.

Gov. Jerry Brown has expressed an interest in barring the sale of vehicles powered by internal-combustion engines, Mary Nichols, chairman of the California Air Resources Board, said in an interview Friday at Bloomberg headquarters in New York. Brown, one of the most outspoken elected official in the U.S. about the need for policies to combat climate change, would be replicating similar moves by China, France and the U.K.

Welcome to the new normal. It will take 50 years for technology to truly wipe out the need for ICE vehicles of all types. Stay Calm and Drive On....

Don't like it? Don't move here. Problem solved! Plus there will be one less car on the freeway, and one less guy in line at the restaurant I'm trying to get into. So it's a win-win!

Carlos, have you noticed that the restaurants you patronize are not crowded? It's all because of you, baby!

California is not alienating the auto industry - it is sending the auto industry the warning shot.

California has been fighting for its right to keep its environment clean - it's not different now than 50 years ago when CARB was established. And for those who don't know history, CARB was formed during the Reagan's governorship. It wasn't a political thing - it was for the good of everyone in California, which turned out to be a good thing for the American people as well as people on earth via its strict clean air regulation. Y'all should thank California for its progressive stance.

What was your reaction when EU went ahead with its 2020 and 2025 mandates on strict emission regulation ? How about China with its imminent 2030 gasoline and diesel ban? Nothing - right since there is nothing you can do about their government.

Same for California. If you're a resident, you vote. If you're not, then butt out. Wishing ill on its people does not do a damned thing except to show your true color - and that's petty.

i don't know if a complete ban is realistic or even warranted, however as tech moves, why would car industry not move with it... all manufacturers are promising full electric line ups going forward... i like my sports cars (currently ice) but i can also see the benefit in performance from an electric or dual motor engine. I also like breathing clean air. i don't understand why this is a partisan issue. the majority of vehicles are for people that could care less what is powering their car as long as its cheap and reliable. they don't care about Apex, and more so for their cup holders. They would love an autonomous car as it relieves them of the "pain" of driving engagement and fully immerses them in their consumer experience.
I really don't understand the vitriol. Why must each position be a matter of left or right. Why can't a liberal enjoy racing or a Republican enjoy a conservative environment outlook.

States Rights!

If the auto industry wants to sell cars in the state, then they will have to comply.

Two important points:

1. It's a proposal that they will be researching, it is not a law or rule and is no where near being voted on or ratified.

2. Even if you live in the state and this becomes a law, you will have plenty of time to buy an I.C.E. vehicle before it goes into effect.

Bonus

3. If you don't like it, leave or do not come to California or any other state, province, county, country that will institute policies like this.

Funny how “Communists” in California have created the most desirable state that people want to move to from all over the world. California real estate is crazy expensive exactly because of their “Communist” conditions of demanding clean water and air from businesses and people want to live there and will pay high dollars to do it. It seems that the very types of highly-educated, highly skilled employees that people want to hire are drawn to California for a reason. Call it ”Communist” in your hyperbolic Brain-dead stupid diatribe. Call it “Socialist” in your Trumpy Fox News fantasyland that only exists within the heads of specifically white conservative Americans (less than 2% of the world population). Call it what you will. But the entire world can see it works. And it works great.

If you could read at higher than a 5th grade level you would have noticed that I was commenting on the fact that the restaurants around here are always packed. So not only did you miss the mark with your comment, you somehow construed an exactly opposite meaning.

How do you function in daily life being this thick?

I guess California needs a "Swamp Drainer" to fix this.

Hey, I have a question: Does it count as "Draining the Swamp" when you fire the guy that you yourself hired as Secretary of HHS?
