PSA Plans To Have A Pickup In The Lineup Before It Comes To The US

PSA Group has confirmed that it is co-operating with Chinese brand Changan to develop a pickup truck for market by 2020 as the segment grows in Europe and international markets.

Under the agreement, which was signed in June, an all-new platform has been developed for the car, which will serve as a rival to the Nissan Navara, Renault Alaskan and Mitsubishi L200.

If launched in the UK, the pickup will likely undercut rivals, but the PSA side of the deal will likely result in both Peugeot and Citroën variants of the truck, as well as a Vauxhall-badged model, given these brands' activities in the commercial vehicle market.

So someone photoshopped a pic just by using the eraser function?

If the Japanese are having trouble cracking the pickup market--aside from the ever-vibrant Tacoma--what makes the fools from France think they will a clue. They don't build class leading anything as it is and a pickup would have to be class-leading to have a snowball's chance in hell of success.

In the past - styling has helped a lot of otherwise average cars - like the original mustang - to make a market for themselves. I believe that this is the ONLY way a French car could possibly enter the market and survive.

PSA has a real problem coming here. Cars are not selling well to begin with. While the LandRover/RangeRover does have styling differentiation - too many of the suv that are selling look similar -especially from the rear. However - the PSA model line up does not have any really compelling SUVS. AND both Peugeot ad Citroen are hard to pin down as brands - both are actually in the same middle space - not entry level - but not High Luxury either. Cars in this position are poor sellers right now. While DS makes some nice higher cars - the brand is unknown in the USA - and still not compelling enough as well.

Frankly - I would believe that they should simply not come - it will cost too much money - money they need to bring OPEL back - noting that they have only so long with the current GM platforms before they must move to their own. I still do not see the Opel purchase -as being right for PSA. Opel is really an entry level competitor in Europe - but sells cars that compete with the other PSA offerings.

PSA buying Opel no doubt had Mary Barra laughing so hard she probably peed her panties. I agree that PSA should just stay home and implode as they most certainly will.
