Where Do You Think The G70 Will Finally End Up Placing In The Premium Sport Sedan Sector?
Genesis, the world's youngest luxury brand, may be weighed down by next-to-no name recognition. It may not have its own dealer network. And it may be struggling with a meager three-sedan lineup in a market hot and heavy for crossovers.

But the Hyundai spin-off is off to a good start, despite the headwinds.

A key first step for executives is distancing Genesis from its mass-market siblings, Hyundai and Kia. They delivered big time with an extravagant debut of the G70 compact sport sedan.

I am seeing a lot of Chevy Malibu, Honda Accord (2018), and Kia Optima in this "premium" sedan. The G70 first must be better than these 3 vehicles before it can move up to compete with the next tier of vehicles.

The mission of the G70 will be to steal sales from low-hanging fruit (TLX, MKZ, IS, CLA, A3, ATS, Q50...) and it has excellent potential to carve out sales.

If Hyundai owned the Maserati name and this was the new Maserati Bora, the car bigots would have a hand in their pants flailing wildly for a happy ending.

As I stated above, it first has to be better than the new Accord and Malibu, and from the exterior, it's just about on par with those 2 vehicles, so it will have to rely on the interior and driving experience to overcome those 2 vehicles.

Looks like a Malibu mashed with a TLX. Should get some sales from Acura, Lincoln, and Buick.

It’s interior is a step below the A4, C Class, and even the 3 Series, and therefore, I agree with others, it will go more after the TLX, A3, CLA, etc... group. Maybe get some of the high end Accord, Fusion customers too

Agree with many others. It'll be in the same spot as the TLX, Q50, and IS. BUT, the Stinger and Stinger GT may be its greatest adversary in the market, likely with a lower price but equal performance (and, questionably, better styling).

With derivative styling and lack of innovation being brought to the industry, Genesis will continually have difficulties with conquest sales. They will/may benefit from step-up buyers from the Sonata but not as much as the Lexus ES benefits from Camry upgraders.

Sorry - the G70 is not a premium sports sedan. IT may aspire to that - but that does not come with just features - it requires time - and recognition.

Just as Lexus are not premium sports sedans - they are second tier - with Audi, Volvo - Buick - and others - this is something you just cannot "ordain" instantly. EVEN if the G70 did match all the characteristics of a real Premium - that does not make it one. One can get lots of non-premium cars with high performance engines - that can out perform a 3 series in something - but in the end - it is still not a premium.
