Study Shows Consumers Are Scooping Up Used EVs Because Of Low Prices

A new study from iseecars.com shows that out of the 10 fastest-selling used cars on the market in the US today, 6 of them have plugs – 3 plug-in hybrids and 3 fully electric vehicles.

The top spot belongs to the fully electric Fiat 500e, followed by the BMW i3.  The i3 is listed in the study as a plug-in hybrid, despite the base model being electric – we’re not sure if the two models were counted separately or just bundled together for the purposes of this study.  Both the i3 and 500e have been popular on the used market in the last year, as many of the cars have been coming off 3-year leases, putting a bunch of lightly-used lease return electric cars on the market at attractive prices.

Also in the top 10 are the Prius Plug-in in 4th place, the Nissan LEAF in 6th place, and the Ford Fusion Energi and Tesla Model S rounding out the list in 9th and 10th.

Who is the IDIOT who wrote this article - and who decided to just refer to it without checking its statements. IT is clearly - and completely FALSE.

I will state that the "10 fastest selling used cars in the USA" - will not include the FIAT 500 at all - and 6 will not be electric cars.

EVEN if they are trying to imply that these 6 cars sell in less time than most other cars that sit on the lot - the ONLY reason would be LACK of availability. IT may take a Honda Accord longer to sell - because they have LOTS of them available. IF you are looking for a Fiat 500e (why would you ?) - there are likely few choices - because they did not sell many.

@TomM read the article when you haven't already had a gallon of Jack Daniels.

The article is talking about how fast used EVs are selling. THAT is the context. Within that context (i.e. used EVs) the 500e is indeed a massive seller and the top seller among used EVs.

The Fiat 500 e cannot be a MASSIVE seller - they Only sell about 6000 of them in a year.

The only reason why a 500e would be a QUICK seller is because there are so few. The article seems to indicate that there are far more than that

@TomM stop drinking the Jack Daniels. The article is saying that among used car sales EVs are drawing consumer interest and that among USED EVs the 500e are the ones that sell the most.

The 500e is a short-lease and dump product. You can get a two-year-old, off-lease 500e at auction for around $5k. Thus giving the buyer a very attractive price is easy, hence sales.

In the context of used EVs for sale, the 500e is massive within that tiny subset.

Huh...
People want EVs?! Find the older, less capable ones perfectly acceptable?
Who would have thunk it?
