Former Head Of Audi Engineering Arrested Over Dieselgate Knowledge
German police arrested and detained a man Thursday who had previously been one of Volkswagen Group's highest-ranking engineers, over his role in the company's diesel emissions scandal.Wolfgang Hatz had been head of engine development at Audi between 2001 and 2007, a period that spans the dates when engineers across the group had started to use illegal software to mask the true level of harmful emissions generated by their cars. From 2011,

Hatz had been head of research and development at Porsche, another unit of VW. He had been suspended along with two other senior executives shortly after the deception was made public by U.S. authorities in September 2015 and left Porsche by mutual consent in 2016.

You can thank your $$$ for votes political machine for that BobM. Without campaign finance reform you can't really expect bankers and corporate leaders to ever face criminal charges or to expect any jail time. People have died as you said, put the page is turned every single time. Remove corporate money from the political system ($1500 per individual per year) and you will get lawmakers and laws focused only on serving the public. Until that time expect more of the same.

@Canadiancomments I would not only ban all corporate contributions to candidates, but bar unions from political activity where they flow money to politicians sometimes against the will of their membership. I'd further ban politicians from doing any kind of fund raising when in office for any purpose other than their own reelections.

Of course, I also want a one-term, once-in-a-lifetime term limit for all elected officials.

@MD- I am with you on term limits and even once in a lifetime service tenure. But corporations and unions donate because they want something in return. It all should be banned and left in the hands of the people. $1,500 is not going to get you anything, but helps the party and the candidate in a small way. If you have a good message and grassroots appeal, you might get elected. But there should not be corporate or millionaire donations to push your message.

There is no way in hell that something this big didn't go all the way to the top. Offer the lower level bots immunity and watch them squeal like schweins. No conflict of interest here with the German government being one of the largest shareholders though...

Wonder about head of VW engine development.

The new charge attributed to fixing the 2L, ~$3B/500k=6k per car, must mean no solution possible, so just destroy all these diesel engines.
