DRIVEN + VIDEO: What Happens When Hyundai Takes Its Sporting Side SERIOUSLY? The i30 N
We've been hearing quite a lot about Hyundai taking its sporting side seriously. But, why would anyone believe it?

Until we heard about the launch of an all-new division, called N, we thought the sporty talk was a bit silly. However, it became clear that the Korean company was not fooling around.

So, now what?

The first car to be launched is the all-new i30 N. And if you haven't been asleep at the wheel you'd know by now that hot hatches are swarming the globe from all angles. So, how does it compare against the likes of Europe's tried and true in the class?

See Evo's Steve Sutcliffe give you the rundown in this early video review.

Wondering if Hyundai’s first proper go at a hot hatch has what it takes to rival the existing aristocracy? We sent Steve Sutcliffe and the new i30 N to some Italian mountain roads to find out.”

I'd love to drive one. It's nice looking. Hyundai has good build quality and reliability, so this should be worth looking at.

Looks and sounds like a real winner. I like that they went outside and bought that institutional knowledge that they knew they needed if they were going to get the details right.

Agreed!

For an archaic industry, Hyundai did something different. Good on them!

Is it me or does this Hyundai look like a Korean VW Golf GTI??? Anything original with Korean auto makers???

Nah, just superior build quality, reliability, durability, and lower cost of maintenance.

Looks a bit bland. Inside looks rental-car chic. Performance isn't much better than a Civic Si or GTI, but costs more. Performance isn't close to Focus RS or Civic Type-R (based on actual tests of both having 0-60 times of less than 5 seconds), but costs not much less. I do like the fact that the styling is more understated than the Type-R, but almost too much so.

"Looks a bit bland. Inside looks rental-car chic..." The same is true of the dowdy Golf.
