Who Needs To Be Worried When The Jeep Pickup Hits The Market?

Time to eat my words. Two years ago, I said the real reason there’s no Jeep pickup is this: A Jeep and a pickup are the same thing. I was wrong. The JL Wrangler Pickup is apparently a sure thing, although I’ll believe the existence of a two-door version when I see it in showrooms.

Let’s assume for a moment that Jeep will start by selling a four-door Wrangler with a 6.5 foot bed, pretty much like all the mules that have been spotted running around. Where will the volume for this vehicle originate? And how much of that volume will there be?

It will be a premium sort of offering. It will not be cross shopped with a Tacoma. Buyers will look at this or a nicely equipped 1/2 ton truck. And then they will decide to get the Jeep if they don't own a farm or use it for work.

@canadiancomments I made my decision on my next car. It's a left over 2017.

"Who Needs To Be Worried When The Jeep Pickup Hits The Market?"

Anyone who tries to put in park on a sloped driveway?

Worried? Uh, the raccoons and turtles that will end up as roadkill under its wheels?

Whatever happened to the Toyota FJ? Was it that awful or perhaps expensive, especially compared to a Jeep?

The FJ was truly awful and got MPG like a 1970s full-sized American land yacht. Toyota couldn't give the damned thing away.

Um the people that buy the POS. If its anything like all other Jeeps, and it will be, it will break down more times than a Citroen.

I'd have one tomorrow if it were out.

I'm guessing that they will pull a TESLA - and only produce the highest content levels initially - which means high prices - and the dealers are unlikely to budge much initially. For me - if I were looking for a truck - I suspect a full size FORD or GM will be in the same price range - and for me - the big truck wins. However - the Jeep Truck will again be something that people want to be seen in - and they will sell all they can make for a while.

The Jeep pickup will sell at full list plus a mark up without any hesitation. They won't be able to keep up with demand.

So MATT - if they were the same price - would you rather have? a Jeep Pick-Up or a Full Size F150, Silverado , or RAM. I will bet you might even get the full size cheaper than the Jeep.

@TomM Hands down, the Jeep. No question. Our Ram haulers are like Cadillacs on the inside and I love them. The F150 and Silverado are excellent, but the Jeep will have style that they cannot hope to match.

Everyone wants an unstable tippy Jeep pickup that provides jumpy bumpy uncomfortable ride with really terrible MPG.

It's weird, right? There is nothing like it though.
The ones at werk are so jacked up they barely fit inside the car garage.
