Marchionne Confirms At Earnings Call That The Ferrari SUV Is Only 3 Years Away
Sergio Marchionne confirmed speculation that Ferrari will make its first SUV while tamping down rumors that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles may part ways with Jeep.

Ferrari is beyond just considering an SUV and will take about 30 months to decide on production, which will be limited to preserve exclusivity, Marchionne told reporters Monday at the New York Stock Exchange. The comments went a step further from when the CEO said during an August earnings call that an SUV would “probably happen.”

Lets see - based on past experience - how many decades is three years in Marchionne speak?

Ferrari has probably been kicking around the idea for a year already. Marchionne was un-professionally hasty when declaring that Ferrari would never do an SUV. When Maserati started work on the Levante, they were probably looking at packaging & equipment options for the Ferrari SUV model as well.

Also, Ferrari knew demand for SUV's has been so wild, it would be financially irresponsible NOT to offer an SUV eventually. It could double sales, bring in more demographics, fund other R&D efforts as well as make the organization look tonnes more viable for their stockholders.

I would expect it to come in for the 2020 model year. They could likely do 5,000 units a year if they want to. $300k-$400k USD price point. High riding car or a coupe-styled SUV with sporting capabilities and a V12 under the hood. Everyone who bought an FF or Lusso could trade them in and get this new offering.

Bought 20 shares of Ferrari stock @ $50 a share just after IPO about 2 years ago for my young grandson's birthday...now at $115. SUV should send shares even higher. Ferrari brand may be the most recognized brand worldwide. Look what SUV has done for Porsche and Bentley. I never suggest any stock to anyone because it can always go down but if you know of a better long term auto investment please let me know.

May be just in time for the start of the SUV market decline.

If Ferrari wasn't something of a sort-of standalone FCA marque, I'd say they don't have three years.
