RENDERED SPECULATION: This *MAY* Be A Good Indication Of The Next-gen Corvette, Also, It May Be Here As A 2019 MY Vehicle
It seems the Chevrolet Corvette's time has come. Given the latest spy shots we've posted for you of what's perceived to be the next-gen Corvette, it will be going to a mid-engine layout.

This is a HUGE step for one of the industry's most storied sports cars.

One thing we were really taken by was how much it looked like something far more exotic. The more I looked at the images, the more I thought it looked like a Ferrari 458 Italia with more prominent hips.

It seems I am not the only one as an artist has rendered what may be in story for the 2019 model year. According to local news reports in Kentucky, where the Corvette is built, it may be here sooner than originally thought as well. That's because the folks down in BG are saying that the 2019 MY will start production around January 29, 2018.

Perhaps this mid-engine car will arrive as a 2020 model? Or, is this why GM is retooling the plant now? What say you, Spies?

Also, let us know what you think of the render below!

...Workers will be assembling 2018 Corvettes when the plant reopens and continue doing so through the week of Jan. 22, 2018. They will then shift gears and start manufacturing the 2019 model of the iconic sports car Jan. 29.

Speculation in trade publications such as Motor Trend and Auto Week has the 2019 Corvette featuring a mid-engine design that would enhance the car’s handling characteristics and make it comparable to such exotic sports cars as Ferrari and Porsche...

Spending nearly $1B dollars on a plant that makes barely 30k cars a year in good times, and as low as 10k in bad times is very odd. Fishy. It would make more sense if more than one model line was made here. I don't mean just the Zora car, but a completely different car line. Time will tell.

70 years of distinctly American looks and then it goes all Ferrari on us.

That would be some rather unfortunate looking styling.

@MD- Sadly this looks very much like the mules we see photos of. It may have a side window treatment or not. Stingray, Z06, ZR-1. Not sure you really need this car in the lineup. The C7-R and previous cars do extremely well on the race track. Clearly somebody thought this was a good idea.

Does the Corvette really need to outrun a Ferrari 458 Italia on a racetrack?
