DRIVEN + VIDEO: So, How Does The All-new BMW 530i Stand Up To The Competition? Is It A WINNER?
If you've ever been in the market for an executive saloon, I am sure you've looked at a BMW 5-Series at one point or another. Although it's grown in scale in the latest generations, cars like the E34 and E39 were off the charts.

They were the right size, built like tanks and, boy, they were fun to drive.

These days the sporting intention has deteriorated, however, the interior quality has been stepped up significantly and the technology gadgets will leave you feeling like a wizard. There's just one problem.

Everyone else in the market has been stepping up their game in a big way too. And then there's the Genesis vehicles that offer very similar vehicles for less. Between the Audi A6, Lexus GS, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Cadillac CTS, how does the BMW 530i fair out?

What say you, Spies?

Now in its 7th generation the 2018 BMW 5 Series remains a stately, luxurious, feature-rich, and dynamically thrilling midsize sedan. With powertrains that range from a frugal 4-cylinder to a raucous all-wheel drive turbocharged V8 there is a 5 Series to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets.

So, he likes it because it pretty much drives like a modern Buick Park Avenue.

I really hate when writers say it was the "Right size". For a very large person (I am over 6'7") I find that many of these cars were not designed with the intention of having a person my height even try to get into a rear seat - with being a contortionist.

If I want a new age Buick Park Avenue -I would buy a Buick LaCrosse for tens of thousands less. I do not. I have a CT6 - and that is RIGHT size for me - it handles better than I expected too. Noting that the CT6 out the door price is likely to be similar to THIS Bmw - I would much rather have the Caddy. BMW cars are not longer the handling leaders - and they always trailed the competition in reliability as well. However - the real problem for ALL of these cars - is that it is CLEAR that handling is not an issue any more - it is being seen in an SUV that makes the case. Cars in this size class are not that much bigger than the next series down - but are generally far more expensive. AND -if you want to be seen in a car - this is about as good as a Toyota Corolla
