Roush To Offer 700-Horsepower GT500

Roush To Offer 700-Horsepower GT500
Own Shelby GT500, but your neighbor just ponied up for an end-of-run GT, and you’re feeling a bit skittish about your street cred? Allow us to show you something in a Roushcharger.

The folks over at Roush Performance have just announced a series of kits that will supercharge your car with up to 700 horsepower. The company will offer three different GT500 kits, starting with a “Cold Air Kit” that gains 45 horsepower. The middle rung on the ladder is the 2.3-liter blower, which adds a stout 120 horsepower and 88 pound-feet of torque. A 3-year/36,000 mile warranty is also included.

If you can live without the safety-net of a warranty and promise not to drive the car on public roads (*wink-wink, nudge-nudge*) they’ll furnish you with a Roushcharger that will give you up to 700 horsepower. Those going whole-hog will have to purchase a pulley separately, as well as have their new setup calibrated.

No promises that your newly-fortified GT500 will spank the aformentioned retrosexual GT, but the horsepower bump ought to make things interesting.

Prices and on-sale dates haven’t been announced for the new kits, but they’re expected to make it to market in time to be one hell of a stocking stuffer.

yeah thats what this thing needs...more hp, the chassis and suspension can't even handle the 500 that it already has.

much rather have a Lingenfelter C6 Vette

Reliability?

The regular GT500 is very slow (compared with the 500? hp it is packing) It is no quikcer than the lighter Corvette with "only" 400 hp or the Audi RS with about the same weight but "only" 420 hp.

Yeah this thing is a boat...classic american formula...strap a big block supercharged V8 to the same chassis and suspension as a Mustang V6 and up the price by $20K

The vette is a way better buy and chevy is on the right track with the Z06 and the rumored stingray. Yeah, huge 7.0L V8, but at least it also has a track inspired suspension and chassis/body materials (carbon fiber bodywork, aluminum frame, magnesium engine cradle) and doesn't tip the scales at 4000 pounds.

Throwing a rouschcharger on this thing is like strapping a couple more turbine engines on a 747 and expecting it to compete with an F-22.

lucky for Ford, the nostalgic styling and nameplate will draw enough buyers.

Roush vehicles come with upgraded suspensions. It's not the same as in the V6. If it is the same suspension, I would complain too. What Ford really needs to do to make the Mustang a top notch vehicle:

A) Improve interior materials quality (Bigtime)
B) Standard seat mounted airbags (side curtain may not work because of the convertible models)
C) Use new 3.5L V6 (265hp, much higher-tech, more efficient)
D) Improved intake on the 4.6L (I spoke with an SVT engineer who designed the cold-air intake and the corresponding software. He said with the intake+software you can gain about 40-50hp.) A cold air intake should be standard, especially for a "GT" model.
