Honda Says It Has Not Ruled Out A S2000 Sports Car Successor - Are You Interested?
Honda boss Takahiro Hachigo has not ruled out the firm launching a successor to its S2000 sports cars.

“As of today, I cannot say clearly that S2000 will be reinvented as further studies are necessary,” Hachigo said at the Tokyo motor show.

Honda has launched three new performance cars in recent years, each a reinvention of a previous mode: the S660 kei car in Japan, the Civic Type R hot hatch and the NSX supercar. At this year’s Tokyo motor show, Honda has previewed a future electric sports car with the Sports EV concept.

Not interested. The last S2000 was a deeply compromised product with a ridiculous price just as the new NSX is. A new S2000 would likely be overly complicated for the sake of complication and foolishly priced.

Oh, for f*ck's sake already. Make a decision, Honda/Acura. There is a sports car market, albeit small, but there is a market. Why else would Toyota be creating the Supra successor and BMW readying their next Z4? Get rid of the goddamn bean counters in the company and understand that niche cars are a necessity for any brand. Create a S2000 successor as an Acura to rival the 918 Cayman/Boxster at a lower price and without all the fancy gadget powertrains. No, it won't sell in volume, but it's not meant to. The Cayman/Boxster don't sell in volume but Porsche remains committed to them and their reputations are stellar.
The last S2000, like the original NSX, still have a huge following. They are still going for a very good price on the used car market and well-taken care of cars are almost becoming collectors items. Build on that legacy, but don't f*ck it up with hybrid shit, at least not as a sole powertrain.

Ugh, this stuff just irks the hell out of me, specifically on the Acura side of the fence. For all the money they have, and all of the engineering prowess they have shown in the past, I have no doubt they can build cars that could compete head to head with the best from Germany or Japan. But the bean counters want to stay conservative. Yes, the Type-R Civic is a good starting point and the new Accord is getting amazing feedback, but where are the products for Acura? This A-Spec crap is exactly that, crap. This is why I do respect Lexus. At least, like Mercedes, they seem to be just saying, "F*ck it, let's just do it" with their products. Not all of it is paying off for Lexus, but Mercedes is doing it best and Honda/Acura needs to learn from it.

If Honda did it for $30K well-loaded with a torquey V6, it would be a reasonable seller.

1. Yes, I want one.
2. Sadly, I do not see it making it to market, for < $40,000 anyway.
3. If it happens, it will probably be electric. (ok as long as it's fun to drive)
4. Get ready for a $20,000 dealer fleecing.
