Is Nissan Giving Up On Having A Performance Image?
Based on a recent interview, it seems as though Nissan isn’t all that interested in launching a successor to the 370Z sports car.

While responding to a question from Car Advice about a new Z sports car, Nissan chief planning officer Philipe Klein seemed to suggest that it isn’t a priority for the brand.

The ONLY reason the Z car is not doing well is because it's a stupid product of mediocre quality. It's ugly, overpriced, and its lack of quality becomes readily apparent not only on cursory glance but also on the unfortunate occasion of living with one.

A Z car that starts as $25K with a turbo 4, then $30K with a V6, with styling evocative of the original aimed squarely at the pony car sweet spot would improve sales tremendously

@fiftysix This is why they are such a perfect fit for Mitsubishi.

Hey, I know! Slap a Mitsubishi badge on the 370Z and call it a Starion. LOL

Datsun/Nissan's History has been as a maker of civilian daily transportation - and while they did have a little more flare that toyota - and for the longest time a great 3.0 liter V6 as well - its been a long while since they competed in the performance area - same with Toyota too.

THey are probably doing what Toyota is - leaving that for the high end divisions - Infiniti and Lexus.

Only the uber expensive, very limited production GT-R is Nissan's performance entry. The 370Z is not a performance car and Nissan has now allowed the Z car to become a forgettable living fossil. So indeed, Nissan has forsaken performance and now is a maker of civilian daily transportation vehicles.
