General Motors is counting on Buick's new Avenir subbrand to bolster its retail performance as Denali has for GMC.

CEO Mary Barra last week said the company has "high expectations" for Avenir, which is arriving in U.S. showrooms as the top trim of the redesigned 2018 Buick Enclave.

Denali-badged vehicles, she said, have risen to account for nearly 30 percent of GMC retail sales in the U.S., commanding higher margins and average transaction prices for GMC and its dealers — all things GM believes Avenir can do as well.

Building the Avenir and Avista would have transformed Buick. Putting some extra bling on Buick's old-mans-mobile FWD crap will not be what elevates the brand.
