Next Gen XJ To Become The Top Cat At Jaguar
The Jaguar XJ will retain its place as the range-topping model in Jaguar’s line-up in its next generation, according to design boss Ian Callum.

Callum said there was now a “consensus” within the company that the XJ, rather than a large SUV, will remain the firm’s flagship, even if such a model does eventually appear. To that end, a ‘J-Pace’ model, to sit above the F-Pace in Jaguar’s SUV range, is still expected, albeit with careful positioning.

It looks like they squished the previous generation to create an equally ugly design and this is coming from a Jag guy who has owned many cats...

Ignore the photo. It is just a concept rendering of the current car. They always seem lower and wider than the production equivalent. The only question will be is if Jaguar will tweak the current style or come forward with something that is much different. I would expect a BEV version as well as hybrid and high performance models using similar engines from Land Rover. The Range Rover now has a new 4 cyl/electric motor offering that can give 101mpg under ideal conditions. This will find its way into the new XJ.
The 640lbft of torque from this unit is ok as well.

They need to improve the styling then, the current one puts me to sleep...

I have never cared for the current styling of the XJ. Strikes me as a generic way to say, "I go fast, too." I hope for more than fast in a Jag. But it seems Ian is hinting the next iteration will be basically a refresh:

"On the current XJ, Callum said its design remains popular because it is 'different' to its rivals. He added: 'The coupe´ profile is something I obsessed over. Some people don’t agree with it. Everything else is three-box; people simplify and categorise things. [If you do that], you lose the opportunity to define in your own way. The XJ covers that well.'

"Callum admitted the XJ was 'a personal thing for me', and he saw it as 'a fundamental part of Jaguar'. He added: 'It’s there and it says what Jaguar is about.'”

Earlier in the article he hints at a hatch back. Thus, until Ian is sacked, the current approach will basically soldier on. Probably the same for the interior: less wood, more show boating. Sigh...

The Forduar XJ outsold Callum's effort on a yearly basis.

Step 1: Fire Callum because he is the problem.

Step 2: Stop making the XJ look like a Merkur Scorpio.

Step 3: Look at the Bertone B99 and build it.

"...Only one brand can have an SUV as its flagship due to its origins and that’s Land Rover...."

Interesting how Callum didn't even acknowledge Jeep. lol

A J-Pace ...if based on that XJ concept above would be interestingly cool.
