Chrysler Sitting on Inventory of 50,000 Vehicles
The Chrysler Group said Monday that it had not yet accounted for tens of thousands of cars in its inventory numbers, which are already considered high by industry standards.

Chrysler said it had routinely excluded these vehicles, worth billions of dollars, from its tally of unsold cars and trucks because they had not yet been assigned to a specific dealer or ordered by a customer.

While there are no requirements for how automakers report their inventories, the disclosure has frustrated competitors who say they are being more forthright about their struggles. Chrysler says the practice is common, but other automakers say they abandoned it decades ago, after the oil shortages of the 1970’s caused inventories to bloat quickly.

A Chrysler spokesman, Kevin McCormick, said about 50,000 vehicles were currently unassigned and therefore not included in Chrysler’s inventory figures, adding that the number had been as high as 100,000 this summer.

Damn, I thought for sure those "Dr. Z" commercials would stir up sales...

Thank god it is not an American car company now. Buying Chrysler was not a smart move by MB, it makes you wonder about what really goes on at MB and where their cars have been, where they are now and where they are going in the future. Really would anyone believe that someone would buy a $50,000 Crossfire even if it had MB under the skin(talk about rebadging).

The Crossfire SRT-6 is over $50K, Will. And it still drives like crap. Fast, but bad handling and mediocre transmission.

Whoever drives one is a total poser.

If the S-Class interior is any indication, I'd say Mercedes's quality management scare is pretty much over.

Chrylser accounts for itself. Mercedes doesn't use their parts in Chrysler interiors. It's their quality problems.

Benz is the father with Chrysler as the son. Like father, like son. And the SRT model.

Rather Chrysler pushes down. IT may have been better if Reagan had let it die.

I can't see GM marrying BMW and Ford partnering with VW.

That'll be the day.

They have cost this country billions and give us things like the K-car and the Plymouth Breeze. US car companies cannot seem to capitalize when they do it right. Examples: Chrysler and the minivan, Ford and the F-series pickup and the Taurus, GM and their vast worldwide reach. They become stagnant and rest on their laurels.

You just said what I said. All 3 companies are alike. They have a success and do not build upon it rather they shower themselves with accolades and live in the past rather than embracing the future.

If gas prices stay low consumers will buy these cars up. People like to forget about bad-times way to easily.

No way!

That would be weird.

Mercedes on its own again? I actually think they'd be better off sticking with Chrysler. They have Jeep platforms to use for SUVs and access to the money Chrysler rakes in.
