TEASED! The Hottest Chevrolet Corvette, The ZR1, Debuts TOMORROW!

TEASED! The Hottest Chevrolet Corvette, The ZR1, Debuts TOMORROW!
Looking back at the C6 Chevrolet Corvette, it was amazing to see how General Motors progressed from the C5. Overall, however, it was a particularly rough vehicle.

While I will be the first to admit that the car was fun, its interior was the laughing stock of the automotive industry. The head's up display and the infotainment system's head unit looked as though they were designed in the 1990s. Fake carbon fiber trim, which was god awful plastic, adorned the center stack, and the rather large embroidered "Corvette" on the passenger dash made me want to vomit. And then there was the ride quality that gave your kidneys a punching.

It was the definition of a cheesy vehicle.

When Chevrolet debuted the C7, however, it was clear GM took a step back and focused on the development of the Corvette. It was a world's difference. Then came the Z06 that redefined what sports cars had to be to compete in the space.

And now here comes the follow up, the ZR1. Expected to produce about 750 horsepower, this will be the most badass Corvette on offer. Equipped with a large fixed rear spoiler — a la the Porsche 911 GT3RS — and budge in the hood, it's going to be a purposeful looking machine.

While we cannot confirm whether or not it will lose weight, we're hoping that's the case. Expect much more aggressive aerodynamic tricks and cooling to be the primary objective. Add to that a heaping of more power.

Tomorrow's the big day. Until then though, scope out the teaser via the Corvette's Instagram page, below.

It's pretty much been unveiled elsewhere. This will be a tremendous car.

If you are going to get a ZR1 you might as well go all the way and get a C7R replica version. You have the big wing and 750hp. Go big or go home.

It will be too expensive for me. Hell, a Z06 would cause too much of a financial bind. I could sell some rides and buy one, but I don't know that I would like it enough to part with the rides that would dent the purchase price.

What coupe are you riding around in now as your company ride @MD?

I grabbed a base 2017 Mustang V6 automatic. I've always loved that configuration in the 15-17 Mustangs because it's just simple and basic. They were great sellers for us. All of the power of the Ecoboost with a much more civilized demeanor. I find the Ecoboost coarse. A base Mustang (V6 or 2.3T) is also a great handler.

I wanted something that would be good for covering miles and I think this will be the ticket. I'm driving it to New Mexico and back soon.

I'll probably wind up buying it because I've had a lot of fun with the V6 Mustangs at the track. Sure, they are not as visceral as the V8s, but they are lighter and more entertaining. I really am not a fan of turbos on any car. I also really dislike the 2018 restyle. The 2015-17 has an ugly face and they made it worse.

While I enjoyed the Continental, it was too big for just me and it was too nice for a company beater. I had two Fusions prior to that and loved their simplicity. When Ford stupidly killed the V6 Mustang, I knew I wanted to get one. For us, the V6 and the V8 were easy sells, but the Ecoboost sat around longer.

I'm also purging cars. I got a good offer for my Shelby so I sold it. I'm kinda cleaning house. I think I have a buyer for a 914-6 replica that gathers dust too often. I like cars so I buy some and then I tend to sell them the minute I can make some money.

Since the Z06 650 horsepower overwhelms the car and denies useful traction, I am sure that the 750 horsepower ZL1 will be a far more tractable car.

The spouse had better have the will papers in order and insurance policy paid up.

I agree. I've never understood why people spend 6 figures on a fast car, but won't spend a penny for performance driving school time.

a good friend of mine has a zo6 and hes a semi professional race car driver and even he complains that its nearly impossible to get that power down and you can spin out in first and 2nd gear on the hiway . extra hp without control is nonsense.
0-60 in the 4's according to the car stop watch , meanwhile i drove the nsx last week and had ZERO wheel spin with nearly 600hp.
i love the corvette, but i think the GS at 80k makes more sense than a zo6/zr1 with unusable power.

If you're goosing it, sure. If you not driving it like Joey BoulderBalls, a Z06 is perfectly fine for the street. Having driven a Z06, I would advise respecting the power.
