From the moment you look at it, the new 755 hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 looks the part. That massive rear wing. All of that bodywork designed to keep it planted to the road. Yes, this thing is going to be wicked fast. But how fast, exactly? Are we talking about a new Nurburgring lap record setter here? Perhaps. Road & Track spoke to Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter at the ZR1’s Dubai debut a few days ago and was told Chevy would like to see a sub-seven minute ‘Ring lap time.

THe day will come when the car companies - if they want to perpetuate performance car sales - will need to actually have "race" tracks for use by the vehicles all over the USA. Performance use of a car on public roads will likely EBB when semi-autonomous cars and then autonomous cars take over.

I could see this possibility as the start of a new class of racing of street made cars - as sold by the manufacturers with little modification (Obviously a roll cage will be needed).
