All-new Tesla Roadster STEALS The SEMI's Show — Musk Plants A Flag In The Ground To END ICE Vehicles For Good

All-new Tesla Roadster STEALS The SEMI's Show — Musk Plants A Flag In The Ground To END ICE Vehicles For Good
While last night the stage was set to change the trucking industry, really the event was about something else entirely. That would be the all-new Tesla Roadster.

And, Elon Musk made it very clear in both his presentation and some subtleties: He's here to end the internal combustion engine (ICE). What Agent 001 has been saying for eons is now fully revealed — TSLA is here to kill the auto industry as we know it.

REVEALED: Tesla SEMI and Tesla Roadster

So, what does the concept Roadster do? Well, blow people's minds first.

According to Musk, the Roadster will go zero to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and makes use of three motors. 100 mph comes in 4.2 seconds and the 1/4 mile happens in 8.9 seconds. The three motors churn out nearly 7,400 lb.-ft. of torque thanks to a 200-kWh battery pack. All said and done, the Roadster is being projected to hit 250 mph. Even better, the battery pack provides a 620-mile range.

If you're wondering what this will cost when it hits the ground in 2020, it won't be cheap. Base pricing starts at $200,000 and if you want a spot in line get ready to pony up $50,000 for a reservation. Almost sounds like a super expensive Kickstarter, right?

Scope out the full presentation below and don't forget to see the snaps from the event after the jump.

The Tesla haters can't even appreciate this of all things, history was just made with this announcement--wake up.

So here we go with another set of hype mobiles. He can't even build the Model 3 and he's already adding more models? What an idiot.

Well Bob - IT really makes no difference if Elan cooks the books regarding savings - the real holdup remains the a minimum of infrastructure in places that would support it - and COMPLETE lack of infrastructure in most real URBAN and Rural areas.

I live in farm country NJ - and not only is there no place to buy a TEsla anywhere near me - but there are no charging station here as well. Add in - in NJ we get 44% of our electricity from ATOMIC POWER _ and they are in the process of closing those power plants - so we already have a shortage that will require new electric plants - without the added need to charge cars.

Wow, Elon Musk is incredible. This really will mark the end of ICE.

Not a chance.

AS I have pointed out before - we do not currently have the supply of electricity - nor the infrastructure to deliver it - nor batteries that will recharge quickly enough.

Add in - Tesla uses 7 cents per KWH as the cost of electricity where the national average is over 12 cents - and is as high as 12-18 cents in the population centers of the Northeast and California (ANd over 30 cents in Hawaii). IN fact - if you use TEsla figure BUT plug in actual Electricity cost for your area - the Diesel still comes out well ahead in the real world.

TEsla says he will use SOLAR chargers to reduce the price - but we currently do not have that ability yet.

Ugh I hate paid trolls.

It's the opposite, really seems like the negative people here either work for current dealerships or are paid by companies with shorts against TSLA (stock was up today btw). Have some perspective, the roadster and semi were both amazing announcements.

So we have a Tesla Model 3 that is far behind its production forecast and now we get a $200,000 Tesla supercar? Elon Musk should focus on actually meeting his Model 3 targets and creating infrastructure to support all these new vehicles before promising a supercar.

Without a rapid increase in Model 3 production and infrastructure to support all these new EVs on the road, Tesla's valuation become extremely questionable.

The infrastructure is already there, even for those without garages. Look at the supercharger map. The newest stations in California have 40+ chargers, a lounge, restrooms, and are solar powered. Unless you are one of the 5-10% of the pop that really live in the boonies and you don't have a garage, you are pretty much set for an EV. Grid storage and a little more solar is all that is needed to support the extra demand on the US grid and it will be a long time before all cars are converted to EVs.

You have to live in b***f*** to be 80 miles away from a supercharger.

I think it's pretty frickin' cool, and I suspect most people who are not Kia dealers, grumpy old white guys or people wedded to Big Oil will agree with me.

You guys do sound pretty hicky when the fastest car ever made is released with the best EV range and seating for 4, and you can't even find one positive compliment for it. If Toyota or Mercedes or BMW released an ICE with these specs I would still given them props even though I obviously would rather see an EV take the crown.

I can't afford it either, but I can recognize that the specs just blew everything else out of the water.

We;l, f*ck ya'll. This thing is beautiful. Sure, Musk has problems to solve, but it doesn't mean the rest of the company is going to stop producing and preparing for the future. $200K for the fastest production car. Hell yah, folks. People (with money) will pay for this shit all day long.

Pay a $50,000 now and get the car in 2020 (likely much later) or potentially lose the deposit entirely in case of Tesla goes bankrupt. Much better to just order a Ferrari instead.

Pay $250k now for one of the first 1,000 roadsters, $50k is for the base model. Tesla may raise $250-300 million just with preorders for the roadster. I like this idea more than just doing another round.

$250K for the 1,000 founder series roadsters. If I had more money than I knew what to do with, I totally would in order to support the company and get an insane car in the process. I'm going to upgrade/downgrade to a new Model 3 instead. I would love a newer S, but it is outside my budget.

Got to keep the ponzi scheme going by any means necessary.

This is a very clever way to raise capital instead of hitting the debt or equity markets. But it's almost fraudulent when Tesla doesn't even have a factory to make the semi or roadster. Nor will they have a factory 2 or 3 years from now.

Next thing I expect to see is Elon taking deposits for homes on Mars.

That's not a roadster, it doesn't have a drop top. Targa is more like it... Nice looking. More toys for the super rich.

@SanJoseDriver - Don't worry about the haters my friend. This announcement was pretty cool to watch and Tesla will keep pushing forward as far as it's luck, lenders and the paying public will take it. I will be keen to see where this all goes.
