NAFTA Talks Begin Focusing On Content Rules

NAFTA negotiators are set to give the most attention to rules for regional content, including cars, as well as financial services in the latest round of trade talks, according to an agenda obtained by Bloomberg.

Teams from the U.S., Mexico and Canada have set aside 28 hours spread out over four days for each of the two topics, more than anything else on the agenda. The schedule isn't released publicly because talks are held behind closed doors.

I wonder how many cars produced in the USA right now have 50% US parts content. It all depends how that is measured, number parts, or $ value of said parts. I highly doubt the auto industry is pushing for this arbitrary percentage. Time will tell where this all leads.

If I remember correctly, the Crown Vic was made in the USA but its "foreign" content was such that it wasn't an "American" car.

Quick get TheSteve to the NAFTA meetings because all those cars made in Mexico and Cana-duh are really American made and can magically be transferred (not sold) over that pesky border so we don't create any "automotive trade deficits" with the beaners or Canucks.

America and the Detroit 3 owes you a huge debt of gratitude as you alone have found the solution that eliminates all those false NAFTA auto issues that our great countries have been debated for months now.

You sir deserve a Noble Prize for potentially saving NAFTA. Hussien (worst prex ever) got one for "what he might do" and so should you for solving all these false NAFTA Auto thingy woes. You should be on Trumps advisory panel so you could REALLY help make Murica great again!!!

Matt

The Crown Vic was made in St Thomas Ontario Canada and used to be a customer of mine before they shut the plant down...

Then it was foreign made but its content made it an American car. There was something fishy about it.
