Sedan, Coupe Or SUV? Infiniti Plans New Flagship Debut At NAIAS

Nearly 30 years ago, Infiniti introduced the first-generation Q45 — a remarkable flagship sedan packed with performance and technology but whose rocks-and-trees ad campaign went on to become a staple of “what not to do” in undergrad marketing courses across the land.

Infiniti pulled the plug on its flagship after the 2006 model year, following poor sales performances that plumbed the depths of Excel charts heretofore unknown to any model since the Lincoln Blackwood.

Which was unfortunate because the Q, by and large, was an excellent car. Now, there appears to be a good chance we’ll see a new Infiniti flagship sedan, perhaps as soon as the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Does anyone really care at this point? Almost as exciting as saying Acura is announcing a new flagship (and I'm an Acura loyalist - still, for now). Every new car they've introduced has just really gone nowhere. The QX30 had so much hype beforehand and barely sells. The new Q60 appears amazing in concept form, then the production model is just underwhelming even in Red Sport trim. The Q50 Red Sport did zero to help enhance the image of the brand nor of the Q50 line. What's next? Rival for either the LC500 or LS with boring interior styling, detached steering, a horrific rear-pillar brand-signature kink?

I agree.
Nissan made the mistake of loading its Infiniti range with fancied up regular Nissan product - OBVIOUS ones - and essentially reduced the value of the whole franchise - Meanwhile TOYOTA also used that- for their volume cars - the ES and RX - both not true Luxury level cars either.

THE original Q actually was a very good start - and could have had Infiniti fighting in the Luxury market but they ended up like Lexus - Playing in the Near Luxury Market with Buick and AUdi and VOlvo. And Infinti now cannot even claim much success there - where their prices are too high.

The car in the picture is ill proportioned and ugly.

Kinda think it pretty slick. Wish they had "ballz" & would plan to make it at 90-95% the concept design. Infiniti is stuck trying & not trying to be like Lexus - but not like Lexus. Yes - very confusing. Them days of offering a fairly basic vehicle lineup is over. On car cant truly compete with 2 or 3 different cars from a single competitor. You can say it or write it on paper - but in reality - you need to offer more vehicles of different sizes/categories to honestly compete.
