Honda Resorts To Facebook To Track Down Owners That Refuse To Fix Airbags

Honda will use Facebook's custom-audiences tool to find car owners with defective Takata airbags.

The tool, which allows advertisers to reach a specified list of users, will match encrypted email addresses associated with recalled vehicle identification numbers to Facebook users.

Takata Corp.'s airbag inflators have been linked to at least 18 deaths and 180 injuries around the world because they can rupture and shoot metal fragments into vehicles.

A bit odd you buy a car because it is safe. But when there is a safety defect you can't find the time to get it fixed.

People act like the tens of millions of replacement airbags just materialized out of nowhere and magically all should be fixed by now.

I recommend that affected people contact their dealer to let them know "I am aware; I want the fix." Seeing that millions of vehicles are affected by the Takata airbag recall, and recognizing that all the airbag suppliers combined don't have the unused (spare) capacity to whip up a million extra units in short order, it might take some time until all affected vehicles are corrected.

This shouldn't be that hard, these owners of these cars should not be allowed to renew registration until fixed.

Yeah, because it makes 100% sense to punish the owner for the manufacturer's responsibility. The question of recalls is much more complicated than unicorns are capable of understanding.

vdiv: See my post of 11/20/2017 3:03:18 PM in this thread, which addresses your idea.

Dimwits also think that just because they have contacted the dealer because they tell themselves they are special that magic will happen. What unicorns don't know--because they are not in the industry--is that the replacements have been prioritized by (1) region because climate conditions speeded degradation of the unit and (2) age of the car--older cars are more likely to have degraded air bags.
