#LAAUTOSHOW: Want To See That Tesla Model 3 Up Close And Personal? Then Get Ready To Shell Out $15

Tesla Inc. has kept thousands of would-be buyers waiting to see a car they started paying $1,000 deposits for 20 months ago. The chance to finally get up close to a Model 3 sedan can be had now for another $15.

The automaker led by Elon Musk has a locked-up red Model 3 sedan on display at the Los Angeles auto show that opens to the public Friday. While the doors will stay sealed shut, even up-close looks at the exterior have been hard to come by. Tesla has restricted initial deliveries to its own employees, and Musk’s struggles getting mass production up and running has kept the car out of the hands of customers.

Tesla has historically shied away from auto shows, which are costly to participate in and are typically run by associations of dealers who aren’t fans of Tesla’s direct-sales model.

The Los Angeles Auto Show (LAAS) photo galleries are sponsored by Lexus.

$15 to get close to a Model 3 at the LA Car Show? By a supposedly major car manufacturer?

Tesla's news just gets more and more loaded up with apparent indicators about how fast things at Tesla might be deteriorating.

Does the stock 'waft' gently down in price or does it get its knees taken out and plummet over a couple of weeks, if the Model 3 problems remain unresolved?

How long do the investors wait.

Remember...if you want a Tesla, you might want to consider leasing it unless you need a large doorstop.

This site is becoming more ridiculous. Agent009, why such a Tesla hater? The article is clearly misleading. The $15 is price of admission for the LA Autoshow. You do not need to pay extra to see the Model 3. A real enthusiast should be rooting for Tesla to succeed. Tesla is an innovative American car company employing thousands of people trying to bring next gen product to customers. And their product is actually amazing with very good reviews. The German or Japanese brands wish they had this level of excitement about their cars. Others will catch up, but it doesn't mean they will put Tesla out of business. Many of the subscribers here need to cheer more and hate less.

@pdperry - you're absolutely right. This website should be called Autohaters. Never seen so many bitter commenters. They hate almost everythig! Tesla gets the most hate, of course, but try to find positive notes on any car. Very few and far between.

Or you can just drive to Fremont and go to the Tesla factory for free. The parking lot will always have at least one Model 3, and they have a really cool store at the factory that carries items you won't find anywhere else in the world--all open to the public.

For those who wish Tesla ill, I have this advice: do NOT drive a Tesla. The electric driving experience is so compelling that you will find yourself badly conflicted. EVs represent a solution to the problems of urban pollution and a long term decline in fossil fuel availability; we need to go in that direction.

Yes, if you take a long trip in an EV, you will need to plan your charging stops...but that is getting easier every day. The rest of the year, you start every day with a "full tank" with no stops at gas stations.

Yes, Tesla is hemorrhaging cash: ramping up any new business eats cash, and when you have to "do it all", it is only worse. The scale of what Tesla has undertaken is unprecedented. Investors - that includes car buyers who know they are paying a premium to help Tesla succeed - know that they are in for a long run before there is profit.

Yes, Tesla has to waste large sums of money and management attention on fighting auto dealers, but they have compartmentalized that activity to minimize the impact on operations.

Yes, the Model 3 startup is sluggish. If you have never done it, consider being more charitable to those who MUST do it. This stuff ain't easy.

Go Tesla!

What is so compelling? I've driven a model S for more than a few miles and there was nothing even remotely special about it. And for the high price, a Mercedes for that amount would have far better quality and be more engaging to drive.

No one MUST buy a Tesla.
